Carrie Fox and Dallas Proctor: Driving product innovation that delivers value for customers

01 April 2026

Macquarie Bank has quickly grown to become Australia’s fifth largest household lender and deposit holder. Carrie Fox, Head of Home Lending, and Dallas Proctor, a Senior Product Manager in Everyday Banking, hold roles in Banking and Financial Services (BFS) that have a direct impact on shaping products, delivering real value to customers.

Carrie Fox: Making an impact through home lending

As Head of Home Lending for BFS Product, Carrie Fox sits at the heart of Macquarie’s expanding home loans business, something she says she “never imagined” when she first started her career.

Buying a home is one of the biggest financial decisions most people will make. Today, Carrie’s work shapes the products that make this possible for Australians; a responsibility she finds both energising and rewarding.

“When I meet someone with a Macquarie home loan, it’s incredibly satisfying to know I’ve contributed to that experience,” she says.

From science to product strategy: A unique career path

Carrie describes herself as “the poster child for not knowing what you wanted to do when you grew up.”

Upon graduating with a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Biochemistry, she realised that, while she enjoyed fact-based problem solving, she wasn’t passionate about pursuing a career in research science.

After a stint in equities research in London, she joined the consulting world for a decade and ran her own small businesses before pivoting to the banking industry, working in strategy, product and risk.

Her path eventually led to Macquarie, where she moved from risk back into product management. “I never imagined I’d work in a bank, let alone in product,” Carrie says. “But my philosophy has always been to look for roles where I can make an impact, work with great people and continue to learn. Product is the perfect fit.”

Where commercial insight meets customer impact

Carrie says that she enjoys the variety and the opportunity to explore different facets of the business by working in product. Product management at Macquarie is anything but one-dimensional. Carrie calls it “a jack-of-all-trades role,” requiring customer-centric thinking, commercial insight and risk awareness while providing the opportunity to work with subject matter experts across the value chain.

“We partner with teams across the ecosystem, including treasury, marketing, risk, operations, sales, and tech and data teams. With that comes plenty of opportunities to learn and to work with fantastic people,” she says. “Within our BFS product team there are more specialised roles which allow people to make an impact in areas like pricing or customer experience. Regardless of the area of focus, being successful in product requires the ability to think holistically and balance commercial, risk and customer outcomes while leveraging capabilities like data, technology and AI.”

Flexibility and growth in a collaborative environment

Carrie shares that culture and wellbeing are a huge area of focus. Every team member in BFS is even encouraged to set an annual wellbeing objective - whatever that means for them.

“I feel very welcome to make my personal commitments as a parent, transparent - I don't have to hide them, and there’s genuine support and flexibility to make it work,” she says.

Carrie also values the opportunities for mobility and has been impressed by the number of lateral moves that people make at Macquarie.

Everyone is encouraged to continue to learn, which can extend to developing your skills through a role in a different function. There is real support for shaping your own career.”

This culture of support is complemented by a collaborative environment and high calibre of colleagues. “We take our work seriously, but not ourselves,” Carrie adds. “That levity, combined with the expertise and culture here, makes it a great place to work.”

Dallas Proctor: From payments to product

Dallas Proctor joined Macquarie Bank’s Deposits & Payments team in 2022, attracted by the brand and its ambition.

“As a challenger brand, Macquarie is incredibly fast moving, so there are lots of opportunities to contribute new ideas and witness transformation,” he says.

“Our differentiated offering is really resonating in the market and we’re growing fast. The BFS Product team plays a key role in helping to build on that momentum and grow our presence further.”

“Beyond overseeing individual products, we all look at the bigger picture of strategically growing the bank,” Dallas says.

Empowered to take new opportunities

Dallas gained hands-on insights into the banking industry and how products work, as a part-time teller while studying for his Commerce/Law degree. He completed an internship and graduate program at an Australian bank, before moving to London and working in payments.

On his return to Sydney, he joined Macquarie as a Senior Product Manager in the Payments product team, initially responsible for DEFT, a digital payments solution used by businesses and property managers, and merchant acquiring, before also taking on debit and credit cards, and cross-border payments.

“Over the last three years the scope of my role has expanded,” he says. “At Macquarie, you have the support to grow your career.”

Dallas recently joined the Everyday Banking product team as a Senior Product Manager. His work spans strategy, compliance and delivery.

Product management isn’t just about launching new features; it’s about owning the end-to-end product, managing risk and influencing stakeholders to make things happen.”

Dallas also enjoys contributing to bigger industry shifts, such as the transition to real-time payments. A recent highlight has been seeing his idea to offer PayID® as a DEFT payment option turn into a live Macquarie feature, offering a fee-free, real-time payment option for three million renters and strata lot owners.

“Banking sits within a constantly shifting macroeconomic environment, and successful banks are those that can anticipate and respond to emerging opportunities and customer trends,” he explains. “I get real fulfilment from seeing customers use something I helped build; it’s when you know you’ve genuinely solved a customer need.”

Shaping customer experience through data

For Dallas, working with data is a key part of his day-to-day role, and is the foundation for improving customer experience. “We use data every day to understand what’s happening in our products, and how we can deliver better outcomes for our customers,” he explains.

His ability to extract insights quickly using SQL means he can identify trends and issues impacting customers. “Whether it’s calls, complaints, or transaction patterns, we look at the data to find root causes and design solutions. It’s about connecting the dots between customer feedback, technology, and business priorities.”

For those coming from consulting or analytical backgrounds, Dallas sees a natural fit. “If you’re curious and comfortable with data, product management gives you the chance to apply those skills to real-world problems and see the impact.”

Dallas’s data analytics skills have been valuable in the role, but above everything else, he believes if there is a defining skill for succeeding in product, it’s curiosity.

It’s a role, he says, that relies heavily on continuous learning and problem solving. For this reason, he enjoys the flexibility of hybrid working. “I work three days in the office and two from home. It’s the best of both worlds - time for deep work and time for building relationships.”

He says the new Sydney office at 1 Elizabeth Street, combined with a culture that recognises and celebrates people’s success, makes Macquarie a great place to work.

“But ultimately,” he adds, “I love working at Macquarie because I want to be challenged and keep doing new things.”
