A social need is a challenge facing society and its inhabitants. We see addressing social needs as work that is positively contributing to society, with tangible social, economic and/or environmental benefits.

No, in order to ensure a wide range of innovative ideas, the Award is not focused on a particular issues or areas of social need.

Application form

We recommend that you draft your responses to the application form by filling out this application form first. You can also save and return to your online form at any time by saving the user name and password which will be provided to you when you commence your online application.

You cannot edit your application once you have submitted it. Please ensure your application is final before pressing ‘submit.’

There are 3 types of required supporting documents for the Award application (in PDF format; max size 20 MB each):

  • List of the Board of Directors names and their affiliations
  • Audited financial statements from the latest financial year
  • 3 letters of reference

Eligibility

Yes, this Award to open to non-profit organisations around the world, which meet the eligibility criteria.

For-profit organisations are unable to apply for this Award. To be eligible you must be a registered non-profit for tax purposes, which has been in operation for a minimum of three years, with a minimum revenue of $A4m, has audited financial statements and a board of directors.

Please note this Award excludes applications requesting funding for research, capital (endowment) campaigns, sporting organisations, schools or religious institutions set up for the purposes of religious teaching.

Three independent references are required to be eligible for this Award. These letters could come from collaborating organisations, funders or clients.

Reference letters should speak to the impact of the organisation and/or specific project, and should also include the nature of relationship between referee and applicant organisation. These letters could come from collaborating organisations, funders or clients.

If there is a social enterprise element within your organisation and your organisation is a registered non-profit, you can apply for this Award.

Yes. Family members can sit on the board of directors, but there must be a majority of independent directors.

Yes, your organisation is able to apply for this Award, assuming it adheres to the Award’s eligibility criteria.

Any registered non-profit for tax purposes with a minimum revenue of $A4m in the last financial year, which has been in operation for a minimum of three years, has audited financial statements and a board of directors is eligible to apply for the Award.

No special consideration will be given to non-profit organisations with an affiliation to Macquarie Group and any affiliations must be declared upon application.

No. The Award is open to organisations globally, but you do not need to be a global organisation to apply for the Award. For example, a UK-based and operated non-profit organisation which meets the eligibility criteria can apply.

Yes, an organisation may apply if their operations are conducted outside the country of non-profit registration (e.g. a UK registered charity conducting aid work in sub-Saharan African countries).

Financial

Annual revenue refers to the income of your organisation. Your organisation must have a minimum revenue of $A4m in your last audited financial statements to be eligible for this Award.

No. You must have revenue of minimum $A4m in the last financial year to be eligible for this Award.

Yes, you are eligible to apply. Please convert your annual revenue to Australian dollars when submitting your application.

Unfortunately not. You must be able to demonstrate that your non-profit organisation has a current revenue of minimum $A4 million by providing financial statements from your last financial year.

Consortiums are able to apply, but please note at least one organisation within the consortium must have a minimum annual revenue of $A4m to be eligible for this Award.

Yes, you can apply for up to $A10m over five years for your project.

You are welcome to propose a funding structure according to the needs of your project.

Yes. We ask that you provide details of this funding in your application.

Judging and confidentiality

Yes, your organisation’s entry details will remain private and confidential. Your data will be managed in accordance with Macquarie’s Privacy Policy

By submitting an application, you are confirming that you are an authorised representative of the organisation, and that your organisation agrees to be bound by the Response for Applications (RFA) Conditions.

We have engaged a third-party provider called Benevity to collect the Award submissions on our behalf, but will destroy application data after the Award period.

The judging panel will comprise the Macquarie Group Foundation Committee, which is the governance body for the Macquarie Group Foundation.

Shortlisted finalists will be asked to submit a more detailed application. A site visit and more in-depth interviews about the project will also be organised.
