Who we are

The Macquarie Group Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Macquarie Group. We provide support to hundreds of community organisations globally each year through financial support, volunteering and skills sharing, predominantly in the locations in which Macquarie operates.

Our work is significantly influenced by the activities of Macquarie staff with a focus on capacity building within the community sector and increasing social and economic mobility. Read more about our approach below.

Supporting the communities in which we live and work through the Macquarie Group Foundation

In this episode, we explore the work and impact of the Macquarie Group Foundation – the philanthropic arm of Macquarie Group.

Our host Lisa George, Global Head of the Macquarie Group Foundation is joined by Erin Shakespeare, the Global Head of Philanthropy for the Foundation. Together, they discuss some of the initiatives and causes recently supported by the Foundation and how they encourage our people to give back by contributing their service, leadership and financial support to the causes and community serving organisations they feel passionately about.

Humanitarian support for Ukraine

In support of communities and families across Ukraine, our people and the Macquarie Group Foundation have to date1 donated a total of $A3.5 million to organisations working to provide vital humanitarian support. Recipients included International Medical Corps and Razom.
We stand with the people of Ukraine and recognise the considerable suffering they are facing. We hope that these funds will provide practical help to those who need it most during this extremely challenging time.

Employee engagement

We have an employee-led approach to giving, supporting our passionate people to contribute service, financial support and leadership to community organisations they choose, in the communities where they live and work. This means we leverage their time, expertise and networks for greater social impact.

We provide funding in a number of ways, including:

  • matching staff donations and fundraising
  • providing grants to a community organisation with a Macquarie staff member on its board
  • donating to a staff-nominated organisation for 10 and 25 year employee anniversaries
  • financial awards to community organisations recognising outstanding Macquarie staff contributions
  • making grants to organisations which meet our grants criteria (a small number of grants outside of these criteria may also be made at the Foundation’s discretion).

We’re strategic in our grant making

The majority of the Foundation’s grant funding is directed to organisations supporting social and economic opportunities for young people in the communities where we live and operate, with each region concentrating on issues with local relevance. We do this so we can achieve the most significant social impact.

We’re strategic in our impact investing

The Foundation is expanding the impact and sustainability of our community efforts by making a small number of social impact investments. Using alternative forms of capital is another way we're working to support social and economic opportunities.
