Macquarie Capital boosts Principal Investment presence with senior InfraTech appointment in London

London, 02 March 2018

Macquarie Capital, the corporate advisory, capital markets and principal investment arm of Macquarie Group, today announces the appointment of Erik Jorgensen as a Managing Director in its European Principal Investment business - deploying capital to facilitate client transactions in the Infrastructure Technology (InfraTech) space.

Erik joins Macquarie from Intel Capital, where he served as an Investment Director for ten years, focused on growth equity transactions in the technology sector. His previous investments include iZettle AB (Sweden-based payments business), MariaDB Corporation Ab (Finnish open source database developer) and Volocopter GmbH (German developer of electric multicopters). Erik started his career over 20 years ago in San Francisco-based investment bank Hambrecht & Quist, where he specialised in mergers and acquisitions for high-growth companies in the communications, semiconductor and software spaces.

Reporting to Hugh Briggs, a Senior Managing Director and Head of Macquarie Capital’s Principal Investment business in Europe, Erik will support the business’ broader InfraTech and growth capital initiatives, specialising in principal investments in companies seeking flexible capital solutions to help rapidly expand their operations.

Erik will target growth equity investments in fast-growing technology businesses as part of Macquarie Capital’s Americas and Europe Group, working alongside Bill Rogers in the Green Investment Group, addressing areas such as energy and renewables, utilities, transportation, smart cities and grids, batteries and other energy storage technologies.

Hugh Briggs said: "We are delighted to welcome Erik to the team. Erik brings a wealth of knowledge and global perspective on growth technology companies, having accrued more than 16 years of experience working for venture capital funds and with technology companies in Europe, Asia-Pacific and the United States. His appointment is an important step in working towards our global ambitions in the InfraTech space.”

Erik’s appointment follows the establishment of Macquarie Capital’s joint venture with, specialist monitoring and controls firm, Spectris plc in December 2017 and the launch of Macquarie Capital and R/GA’s Venture Studio in New York earlier this month - a platform designed to promote innovations in InfraTech.
