Students join us in their second year of university for the full academic year, and subject to performance, may be offered the opportunity to come back and work throughout their final year of university.
Students graduate from university in the same year they complete their programme and are eligible to join us on the Graduate Programme in the same year, or another suitable entry level opportunity.
The Junior Associate Programme offers up to two-year placement opportunities across our business and support functions in London.

The Junior Associate Programme is designed to provide second-year undergraduates a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of financial services whilst you complete your degree. The skills, network and confidence you will gain from taking part in the programme will kick start your career, hopefully leading to a place on our Graduate Programme or another entry level analyst position across the Macquarie Group.
Commencing in September before you embark on your second year of university, you’ll join us for a week-long induction where you’ll take part in a range of orientation activities tailored to the business group you’ll be joining, as well as key skills training to set you up for success when you hit the desk. You’ll also meet the rest of your Junior Associate cohort and previous Junior Associate alumni through classroom-based learning and networking events to build the foundations of a strong support network at Macquarie.
After you have completed your induction, you’ll join your team for two days per week for the year. As a member of the team from day one, the majority of your learning will be on the job; taking on project work, key tasks, and activities to support the team and business direction. Learning from your team, buddy and mentors you’ll get a taste of what a full-time position will be like alongside a structured learning pathway to help you build the skills and confidence to succeed in your role, from Personal Brand to Presentation skills and many more. With regular feedback and career check ins, you’ll start to own your career at Macquarie with the support of your manager.
Subject to your performance and our business need, you may be offered an opportunity to continue the programme for a second year whilst you complete your final year of study. Like year one, you will continue to develop through on the job learning as a valuable member of the team. Your learning pathway will continue throughout the second year, with tailored development sessions designed to accelerate your learning and confidence. We’ll also discuss your career aspirations beyond the programme with you and support you in achieving them.
Throughout the two years, you’ll be invited to various networking sessions to continue to build your network across your cohort, the business and with senior leaders across Macquarie.
Applications for the Junior Associate Programme must be made via the Social Mobility Foundation or London Works. You’ll be asked to submit a short online application form confirming a number of details to check your eligibility for the programme.
Once your application has been accepted, you’ll be asked to submit a personal statement to support your application. Your personal statement is your chance to demonstrate your motivation and commitment and show us what you can bring to Macquarie.
Your video interview will bring your personal statement to life by offering you an opportunity to tell us more about your motivation for the role and why it excites you, by answering a number of pre-recorded questions in our video interview platform. The video is a great way to showcase your personality, interests, and experiences and show us why you would be a great candidate for the programme.
If we think there is a strong match between you and the role you have applied to, we will invite you to take part in our one-day bootcamp to help prepare you for the rest of the process.
The bootcamp is not an assessment day, but an opportunity for you to hear directly from us about what our expectations are of you and how you can best prepare for the psychometric assessment and superday. From lecture style presentations, mock interviews, and group activities, you’ll leave the bootcamp feeling excited about the process.
We hope that we will be able to invite you to a Bootcamp at our offices in London, however due to COVID19 we are unable to confirm this until closer to the time. Your recruiter will confirm the nature of the bootcamp.
After the bootcamp, all attendees will be sent a link to complete our online psychometric assessment, which is a standard and scientific method used to measure individuals' cognitive ability and behavioural style.
The information generated from this assessment, in combination with the other information gathered during the selection process, will be used to assist us in ensuring we have a comprehensive view of the match between you and the position you have applied for. There is no minimum score required to progress to the next stage. What we look for in your results are the specific skills and attributes required for the role you have applied for.
You will be asked to complete the assessment from home, which typically takes about an hour. If you’re successful, you may be asked to complete a verification assessment at a later date.
We will send you further information about the psychometric assessment and a link to do some practice assessments which will help you familiarise yourself with the nature of the assessment. Please note that the practice assessment sent by your recruiter is the only authentic practice assessment for Macquarie.
If you are successful after completing your online psychometric assessment, we will invite you to our Superday. The Superday is your moment to shine by bringing together your interest, passion, and excitement for the role to help us understand more about your working preferences and why you’re suitable for the programme.
The nature of the Superday will depend on the team you are applying for. Generally, you’ll be asked to consider a case study, a problem-solving activity, work sample or an article and present your views to the team. You can also expect to be asked some competency-based questions. These interviews are also a great opportunity for you to gain further insight into whether a career at Macquarie is right for you.
We hope that we will be able to invite you to a Superday at our offices in London, however due to COVID19 we are unable to confirm this until closer to the time. Your recruiter will confirm the nature of the Superday, as well as any other information at the time.
If your Superday was successful, we will invite you back to meet a senior member of the team you’ll be joining. Usually, the final interview will focus on your motivation and interest in the role and provide you with an opportunity to ask any further questions you have about the programme.
Successful candidates will be contacted shortly after the interview with confirmation of an offer. Your recruiter will provide you with the details of the role and send you an email with your offer documents. You’ll have a deadline to return your documents to us which will be outlined in the letter.
Once accepted, we will ask you to take part in our onboarding process to ensure you can join your team in time, this will include employment screening as well as some other key details. Your recruiter will provide you with the necessary information at the time of offer.
