A short eight months into his career at Macquarie, Shankar Siva has realised how much of a priority risk management is to the organisation.”
“I can see how people in risk-related roles play a crucial part at Macquarie – from assisting with new businesses and products to maintaining and improving our risk and control environment. Risk roles are integral to the way we operate our business.”
Shankar is a first line risk manager and leads Macquarie’s Technology Risk Management team for the retail businesses covering personal banking, business banking, wealth and asset finance.
“I work with a great team of highly skilled technologists and risk professionals. We work globally and develop tailored solutions depending on what the business is trying to achieve.”
Reflecting on the opportunities he’s seen at Macquarie in his short time with the organisation, Shankar says that the everyday challenges and the global nature of the business make working at Macquarie rewarding.
“I see risk roles at Macquarie as providing the opportunities for people to establish themselves as trusted advisors who are commercially aware and have deep subject matter expertise. Stakeholder engagement at all levels, influencing and driving behaviour and cultural change are all part of working in the risk team. For technology risk, whether you’re interested in Cybersecurity, Emerging Technology Advisory or perhaps Risk leadership roles, you really get to drive your own career in the direction that you want to.”
“In my eight months with the organisation I can already see how inclusive and diverse the environment is at Macquarie and how much flexibility there is – I can work from any location and be flexible with my hours as needed. Macquarie’s culture and the way we do business is centred on opportunity, accountability and integrity, which allows us to hone our entrepreneurial streak.”
In his 13 years at Macquarie, Craig Anderson has worked across almost every business and support group within the organisation.”
“I joined Macquarie as an Information Technology Auditor in the Risk Management Group, later becoming the Head of Information Technology Audit. In August this year, I moved into first line risk as the Global Head of Technology Risk.”
Diverse career stories like Craig’s are common at Macquarie, as internal mobility is highly valued. Many others in the team have had similar opportunities to move into different roles and gain experience in different areas of the business.
“There are a number of staff who have been working at Macquarie for many years. When you ask them why they have stayed for so long, they will tell you about the various roles they have had and the opportunities they’ve been able to seize during their time at the organisation – it’s a true testament to the thriving work environment Macquarie provides.”
Being able to really make a difference is something Craig says has also contributed to his commitment to the organisation for over 13 years.
“When you join Macquarie in a risk role you can be guaranteed to make an impact from the outset. You will have the opportunity to partner with the business, influence business decisions, meet with and learn from a wide variety of stakeholders and develop your risk knowledge by working with a strong network of risk professionals.”
