Our people

Macquarie is celebrating more than 30 years of growth and innovation in the United States. We are sharing stories and highlighting contributions to Macquarie’s growth over three decades by our people who made it possible.
Nina Hunt is a Senior Managing Director within our Commodities and Global Markets (CGM) team. Nina joined Macquarie over 20 years ago, starting as a university scholarship student in Sydney and is now global co-lead of deal and logistics management within our Commodity Markets and Finance team in Houston. In 2005, she moved to the US, playing a pivotal role in the acquisition of the physical trading platform Cook Inlet, followed by the Constellation business. These acquisitions strengthened Macquarie’s financial and structured energy markets expertise, enabling the firm’s first physical natural gas trade in the US and laying the foundation for physical commodity growth for Macquarie globally.
I joined Macquarie through a Bachelor of Accounting program in Sydney, which included a co-op scholarship program. I interned for Macquarie during my first year of university, where I was able to experience first-hand the entrepreneurial spirit here. The people I met were incredibly respectful, genuine, excited, agile, thoughtful and supportive, making it clear this was where I wanted to be when I finished my co-op and sought a full-time position.
I began working within Finance and Product Control in Sydney. Within three years, I was given the opportunity to move to Los Angeles in a newly created role, which would be instrumental to building our CGM business in the US.
The LA office was special, especially being part of the Cook Inlet group. The office had around 60 people, fostering a strong sense of community and creating an inspiring work experience.
Looking back, being sent internationally just three years into my career with the responsibility to establish an on the ground presence in Los Angeles at such a young age speaks volumes about Macquarie. It shows the trust and empowerment Macquarie places in its people, encouraging us to try new things and succeed.”
The LA office was the starting point for my US journey. In 2009, following another acquisition opportunity, I relocated to Houston, Texas. While I hadn’t planned to settle in Texas, it has been home over the last 15 years.
Being part of the commodities and finance space at Macquarie is truly amazing. The individuals I work with are incredibly dedicated and knowledgeable, bringing a wealth of expertise to the table. We are agile and quick to react, which allows us to navigate the ever-changing landscape effectively. I travel frequently for work and have seen the same adaptability and commitment in each of our offices I’ve visited.
At Macquarie, I am encouraged to choose my own adventure, and I encourage my team to do the same. Success comes from seizing opportunities and being willing to take risks, which helps us develop greater agility and adaptability. This approach enables us to uncover and address unseen challenges, driving both individual and business growth.
Having been with Macquarie 20 of the 30 years we’ve operated in the US, it's incredible to see how much we've grown in the region, the impact we've made in numerous markets around the world and the client relationships we've built. Beyond the business success, there’s also a deep sense of community within our US offices, which has made a personal impact having left Sydney embarking on my career and finding myself supported along the way.
Celebrating 30 years in the US is truly monumental and quite amazing.”
Looking ahead, I'm excited for what the next 30 years will bring. In today’s complex geopolitical environment, there is massive opportunity in commodities and my team continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible.
