Opportunity
The A9 is an important transport link in south Amsterdam, providing essential links to Schiphol airport. This project is the final part of the Schiphol SAA expansion to improve traffic flow and accessibility to this economically important area.
Approach
Macquarie Capital is acting as sole sponsor, financial advisor and developer on the project, raising over €1bn of highly competitive project finance debt from commercial lenders, institutions and the European Investment Bank.
Outcome
Competitive
A competitive debt arrangement was developed in a extremely low base rate environment, alongside the influences of Brexit and European Monetary Policy
Expansion
The project will broaden the A9 motorway to four lanes in each direction over 10km, including a 1.5km sunken road structure with three cover sections, of which the largest will span 249 metres. It also includes the complete re-development of the existing Schiphol Bridge
Noise reduction
To reduce noise, new sound barriers will be erected along the sunken sections and the road will be laid with the latest quiet asphalt
