New York, 31 May 2012
Macquarie Group (“Macquarie”) (ASX: MQG; ADR: MQBKY) announced today that Nick Butcher and Rob Bilger have been appointed US Head of Oil & Gas and Vice Chairman for Macquarie Capital, respectively.
Mr. Butcher is US Head of Infrastructure, Utilities and Real Estate for Macquarie Capital and will continue in this role in addition to his new responsibilities as head of Macquarie’s US Oil and Gas group. Mr. Bilger currently leads Macquarie Capital’s oil and gas acquisition and divestiture business, and will now assume broader responsibilities to deliver to clients Macquarie Capital’s energy products and services.
“I am pleased to appoint Nick and Rob into these new roles,” said Robert Redmond, US Head of Macquarie Capital. “Nick has played an instrumental role in the development of our US infrastructure advisory business, and his team has delivered consistent, excellent results under his leadership. He will serve the firm well as we seek to further expand upon our broader global resources platform. Rob’s experience and the depth of his relationships in the industry will help us as we seek to further expand our client offerings in the US.”
The appointments follow the firm’s hiring of Tom Hassen as Global Chairman of Oil and Gas based in New York in December 2010.
“Macquarie has the track record, sector expertise and global coverage to offer client-focused solutions to energy companies,” said Rob Dunlop, Global Head of Resources for Macquarie Capital. “Nick and Rob’s long-standing experience in the industry and related sectors, along with their institutional knowledge of the firm, will be an asset to our efforts in the region. Together, Nick, Rob and Tom will help deliver the broad capabilities of Macquarie to clients.”
“Today’s announcement signals our ongoing commitment to the oil and gas sector and will enable to us to better leverage our full set of firm-wide capabilities -- including energy lending, energy markets, acquisitions and divestitures, and corporate advisory -- to help deliver holistic services to clients. We are very pleased to have this team in place,” added Mr. Redmond.
Mr. Butcher, a Senior Managing Director, joined Macquarie in 1996. He has worked for the firm in Sydney, Melbourne and London. He has been based in New York since 2008. Mr. Bilger joined Macquarie Capital following its acquisition of Tristone Capital in 2009. He began his oil and gas career with Marathon Oil and later held roles at Samson Investment Company, Ashland Exploration and Apache Corporation before founding Petroleum Place Energy Advisors, which merged with Tristone Capital.
