Macquarie Capital today announced the appointment of Steve Baldwin as Managing Director and Head of UK Corporate Broking.

With more than 15 years in investment banking, focussed on corporate broking, Mr Baldwin has excellent execution experience, supported by a deep understanding of UK markets and regulation and strong client relationships. He joins from J.P. Morgan Cazenove where he has spent over 10 years acting as Corporate Broker and adviser to a wide range of clients. He most recently advised the oil exploration and production company EnQuest on its complex demerger from Petrofac and Lundin Petroleum and last year led the substantial equity raisings by insulation distributor SIG and property advisory company DTZ. Other clients at J.P. Morgan Cazenove included International Power, Talvivaara, SOCO, Halma and Victrex.

“Steve’s appointment is a tremendous boost to the build out of our Equity Capital Markets (ECM) and Corporate Broking franchise’’ said Antony Isaacs Head of ECM for Europe. “We have benefitted from the significant growth of our Cash Equities business over the last two years, which included the additions of the Tristone, FPK and Sal. Oppenheim platforms. Steve will enable us to better serve our existing Corporate Broking clients as we look to significantly grow the client base.”

Macquarie has been actively building its equities and capital markets capabilities in the UK and Europe. Macquarie’s cash equities team in Europe includes more than 70 research analysts covering over 400 companies and is part of the eighth largest equities research platform in the world with more than 27001 stocks under coverage.

“We are pleased to welcome Steve to Macquarie. Having someone with his track record and expertise will be a great development for our UK advisory and capital markets business,” said Graeme Conway, Head of Macquarie Capital’s European Advisory business.

Prior to J.P. Morgan Cazenove Mr Baldwin worked in corporate advisory roles at Bankers Trust, and UBS after qualifying as a chartered accountant with Coopers and Lybrand. He will join Macquarie London in September.
