Macquarie Capital today announced the appointment of Roland Schmidt as Managing Director within Macquarie Capital’s German Corporate Finance, Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) and Equity Capital Markets (ECM) business. Schmidt strengthens Macquarie Capital’s growing European team, joining the Frankfurt office on 1 September 2011.
Roland Schmidt has 14 years experience in investment banking and corporate finance. Before joining Macquarie he was Chief Operating Officer and member of the management board of Lazard & Co in Frankfurt. Prior to this, Schmidt worked for seven years in UBS’ M&A team in London and Frankfurt and was previously a member of KPMG’s Corporate Finance department. Schmidt specialises in transactions in the chemical and utilities sectors, having managed numerous M&A deals including the acquisition of Steag by a consortium of public utilities, the takeover of Ciba by BASF as well as Bayer’s disinvestment of H.C.Starck to Advent/Carlyle.

Macquarie’s Germany activities comprise Macquarie Capital and Macquarie Securities the equity derivatives, cash equities sales and research businesses acquired from Sal. Oppenheim - Macquarie Funds Group’s structure product business and asset management of investments made by Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets, including Thyssengas and Techem.
