Macquarie recognized for commitment to LGBTQ equality with perfect score on Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index

New York, 28 January 2021

Macquarie Group ("Macquarie") (ASX: MQG; ADR: MQBKY) today announced that for the third consecutive year, it has received a perfect score on the Corporate Equality Index (CEI). The CEI ranks corporate policies, practices and benefits pertinent to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) employees and is published by the Human Rights Campaign, one of the largest LGBTQ advocacy groups in the US.

In 2021, the Human Rights Campaign evaluated 1,142 companies examining non-discrimination policies across business entities, equitable benefits for LGBTQ workers and their families and support for inclusive culture and corporate social responsibility. Macquarie’s 100 per cent score reflects its continued commitment to its LGBTQ staff and to building a workforce that values all aspect of diversity and intersectionality.

“We are honored to have sustained our place as a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality,” said Sherri Brudner, Managing Director in the Commodities and Global Markets group and Co-Executive Sponsor of Pride@Macquarie, the firm’s LGBTQ and ally employee network group. “This designation reflects our ongoing commitment by our people and employee network group Pride@Macquarie, who play an instrumental role maintaining and enhancing LGBTQ visibility and support across the organization.”

“At Macquarie, our focus on continuing to build a diverse and inclusive workplace, in which everyone is empowered to be themselves, is an organizational priority,” said Rachel Palmer, Head of Human Resources, Americas. “The diversity of our people is one of our greatest strengths, and we are proud that our policies and practices reflect our support for our LGBTQ staff and the broader community.”

Over the past year, Macquarie and its employees have supported a number of LGBTQ initiatives including its sponsorship of organizations such as Out4Undergrad, an organization focused on advancing undergraduate LGBTQ leaders in their professional lives and SAGE, the country’s largest and oldest organization dedicated to improving the lives of LGBT older people. Through its COVID-relief efforts, Macquarie Group Foundation provided emergency funding for the New York Anti-Violence Project, which provides free counseling, advocacy, community organizing, legal support and education to end violence against LGBTQ and HIV-affected communities.
