Canada Unclaimed Property

Macquarie Capital Markets Canada Ltd

Macquarie Capital Markets Canada Ltd (MCMCL) may, through normal business operations, be in possession of financial assets (funds and/or securities) that are “unclaimed”. Alberta, British Columbia and Quebec have enacted laws concerning unclaimed property.

Unclaimed Property Procedures

Property is deemed “unclaimed” if we are not able to contact you and your current location is not known to us, including in the following circumstances: (i) written communication has been returned as undeliverable, (ii) a cheque has not been cashed and remains outstanding for a period of time established by legislation; (iii) when no claims or transactions have been made nor instructions given in respect of the property for a period of time established by legislation, or (iv) when certain periods of time established by provincial laws expire.

MCMCL has implemented policies and procedures to locate investors for whom we are holding unclaimed property, based on their last known address. Efforts to locate such individuals may include: (i) correspondence with investment advisors; (ii) searching our recordkeeping system for other accounts; and (iii) telephone or internet searches.

MCMCL maintains a list of unclaimed property owners whom we have been unable to contact. If you believe you are an owner or a beneficiary of unclaimed property held at MCMCL, please send inquiries in writing to:

You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to validate your status as the owner, heir or assignee, including the owner's name, current and previous mailing address, details of the property for which you are making a claim and certified copies of two pieces of personal identification. Residents of Alberta

In Alberta, unclaimed property must be delivered to the Tax and Revenue Administration (TRA), which administers unclaimed property and keeps a public register of this property for the residents of that province. If MCMCL has transferred your unclaimed property, you must apply to TRA in order to reclaim your property.
