Macquarie has been advised by PageUp, a third-party supplier of recruitment services, that PageUp has experienced a security incident where an unauthorised person has gained access to its systems. Macquarie takes information security and privacy very seriously and as a precautionary measure we have suspended our use of PageUp’s services at this time.

What service does PageUp provide?
PageUp provides HR software services that can be used by companies to support their recruitment activities. It is one of the largest recruitment system providers in Australia.
Who might be impacted by this incident?
PageUp has informed organisations using its services that some applicants’ personal information may have been accessed by an unauthorised person and possibly disclosed, as a result of the PageUp incident.
To date PageUp has been unable to provide information on any impacted individuals or any impact specific to Macquarie, however as Macquarie is a user of its services, people who have applied for a role at Macquarie may be impacted as a result of this incident.
What information may have been impacted?
PageUp has stated in its general communication that data which may have been compromised includes contact details such as name, street addresses, email addresses, telephone numbers, and information such as gender, date of birth, maiden name, nationality, whether the candidate was a local resident at the time of the application, and employment details at the time of the application, including employment status, company and title.
What information has not been impacted?
PageUp has confirmed that it is confident resumes, financial information, tax identifiers, employee performance reports, employment contracts, and other documents have not been accessed in this incident.
How does this affect your personal information?
Macquarie is among a number of organisations which may have been impacted by this incident. To date PageUp has not provided information on any impacted individuals or any impact specific to Macquarie. We remain in contact with PageUp to find out more about what has happened and whether or not information about candidates who applied to Macquarie was actually affected.

What action can you take?
Macquarie has subscribed to the services of identity and cyber support expert, IDCARE. If you are concerned about your personal information, IDCARE can assess any risk of harm that this incident may pose to you, as well as advise on any steps that you could take to prevent the potential misuse of your information.

Separately, PageUp has advised anyone with concerns to perform the following good security practices:
- Install anti-virus software and keep it updated
- Change your passwords on other online services, if you re-use the same password as for PageUp
- Enable multi-factor authentication and other available security measures provided by your other online services
- Be aware of potential phishing emails and telephone calls from businesses or institutions requesting your personal details
- Avoid opening attachments from unknown senders via email or social media
- Apply all recommended software updates from operating system and software providers.
