Macquarie Group and its employees donate $290,000 to Mexico earthquake relief efforts

Mexico City, 09 October 2017

Macquarie Group Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Macquarie Group, today announced US$290,000 in donations have been raised to date by individual staff members and Macquarie businesses to support disaster relief and rebuilding efforts in Mexico following the two destructive earthquakes experienced in Mexico during September. The donations will be directed to organizations providing assistance to people and infrastructure impacted by the earthquakes.

In addition to the financial support for relief efforts, Macquarie employees based in the Mexico City office are actively engaged with local groups to assist with relief and rebuilding efforts. Macquarie manages FIBRA Macquarie (BMV: FIBRAMQ) and Macquarie Mexican Infrastructure Fund (MMIF) in Mexico.

"Mexico’s two recent earthquakes were devastating to the country, as well as to our local communities,” said Ernesto González Garfias, Chief Executive Officer of MMIF. “The response from our staff, many of whom jumped into action as soon as the earthquakes hit, has been extraordinary. We recognize, however, that there is a long-term need to rebuild and sustain communities across Mexico.”

“We are proud that our staff, businesses and the Macquarie Group Foundation are working together to make a meaningful difference in the wake of this tragedy,” said Erin Shakespeare, regional head of the Macquarie Group Foundation. “We expect to be involved in supporting volunteer efforts on the ground for some time.”
