Macquarie Group Foundation | FY2025 Annual Review

Celebrating 40 years of impact

Chair’s message

Message from Alex Harvey
Chair, Macquarie Group Foundation
Chief Financial Officer, Macquarie Group

Welcome to the Macquarie Group Foundation’s 2025 Annual Review, which will be my final as Chair as I hand over to Evie Bruce, Macquarie’s Group General Counsel.

This year marks the Foundation’s 40th anniversary of driving Macquarie’s social impact work, supporting our people, businesses and communities to build a better future. Its founding Chair, David Clarke AO (1942–2011), who was also Chairman of Macquarie at the time, firmly believed that Macquarie and its people should strive to improve society in a variety of ways.

Our FY2025 impact

Alex Harvey, Evie Bruce and Lisa George discuss Macquarie’s contribution to the community over the past financial year and reflect on Alex’s time as Chair of the Foundation.

Recognising that many people around the world face barriers to employment, we use a range of tools, including grants and social impact investments, to support organisations dedicated to helping people overcome these challenges and create effective pathways to employment.

In FY2025, the Foundation provided $A12.2 million in philanthropic and impact investment funding to 57 employment-focused partners. Our existing employment-focused partners reported supporting 7,400 people into jobs, with more than 30,000 people provided with access to training, skilling and employment programs.

During FY2025, we initiated our first-ever open call for expressions of interest for employment-focused grants as part of our ongoing efforts to make our grantmaking process more equitable and inclusive.

Support from our people

In addition to our funding, our people continue to provide support by volunteering in mentoring, training, and employability programs, as well as working pro bono on social impact investments.

Our people in the Americas providing mentoring support to young people during Macquarie's annual Mentoring Month 2025.
Our people in El Nido, Palawan, the Philippines, on a site visit to Ayala Foundation.
Our people in Sydney holding a fundraising event called ‘Wheels of Fortune’ in support of Good Return.

Foundation grant programs

Celebrating the impact of the five Macquarie 50th Anniversary Award winners

The year marked the conclusion of our five-year grants for the winners of the Macquarie 50th Anniversary Award to initiate or build on bold ideas to address social need. We’re proud to have supported Last Mile Health, Murdoch Children’s Research Institute’s World Scabies Program, Social Finance, The Ocean Cleanup and World Mosquito Program and the impact they have had in a wide range of areas to help build a better future.

Alongside the five $A10 million grants awarded over five years, many of our people donated their time and skills and became passionate advocates for the recipients’ work.

Responding to humanitarian needs

We understand the vital role played by non-profit organisations in providing humanitarian and health assistance in communities around the world and recognise that these organisations face greater demands for their services each year.

In response to this, in FY2025 the Foundation provided a $A1 million donation donation to Save the Children’s Emergency Fund to help deliver lifesaving programming, distribute essential supplies, and restore education and livelihoods. Our people also supported this cause through donations to their local Save the Children chapters.

Macquarie’s support will make a significant impact on critical programs that save lives and protect children and families around the world. At a time when 1 in 11 children globally need lifesaving assistance, we have never experienced a time of greater need nor a greater gap in funding to help those facing the toughest challenges.”

People driving impact: projects benefiting business and society

As well as providing advice on philanthropic giving, the Foundation supports colleagues in Macquarie businesses to integrate a shared value approach into existing business models; where there is an opportunity to deliver both new, or increased social value and enhanced commercial advantage.

The Macquarie Shared Value Award program recognises teams advancing shared value projects. To date, the Foundation has awarded five projects around the world, directing grants totaling close to $A500,000 to aligned non-profit organisations that help enhance each project’s social impact11

Macquarie Sports aims to engage young Australians by improving access to sporting opportunities. In FY2025, Macquarie Sports celebrated its 25-year anniversary and more than 2,300 young people participated in sporting clinics in communities around Australia.

In FY2025, the Macquarie Group Collection acquired 15 new works of art, thereby assisting the careers of an additional 13 emerging Australian artists. The Collection now comprises over 950 works, which are showcased in more than 40 Macquarie offices globally.

Additionally, this year we launched the new Collection Ambassador network. This network is made up of employees who have a keen interest in art and a passion for sharing the unique story of the Collection.

We would like to thank the Macquarie Group Foundation Committee members for their valuable contribution and guidance over the past year: Alex Harvey (Chair), Brett Bingham, Evie Bruce, Stuart Green, Leigh Harrison, Christina Lee, Verena Lim, Shawn Lytle, Stephen Moir, Bruce Phipson, Rachel Palmer, Lynnette Sarno and Rohan Westcott.

Last year we welcomed Christina Lee, representing Macquarie Capital, and Rachel Palmer, Macquarie’s EMEA CEO, to the Foundation Committee, and farewelled Jackie Hamilton and Paul Plewman, who stepped down from it. Jackie Hamilton has joined the Social Impact Investing Advisory Committee, supporting our social impact investments.
