Graduates and Interns

Recruitment process

Applying for an internship or graduate opportunity is an exciting step, and we want you to feel informed and prepared from the start. On this page, you'll find guidance on each stage of our recruitment process, practical tips to help you put your best foot forward, and insights into what we're looking for. Our goal is to help you approach every stage with confidence while learning more about the opportunities available at Macquarie.

Macquarie and Artifical Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping many aspects of how we interact with the world around us every day. This includes candidates, perhaps like yourself, who choose to use AI in parts of their job search.

The recruitment process

The recruitment process for graduate and intern roles is split into four key stages. At the end of each stage, we'll review your application and keep you updated on its progress.

  • Before applying, take the time to research the role, the business area, and the skills required, and consider where you can genuinely see yourself developing and adding value.
  • Don’t see a role posted on our site?  Join our Talent Community, set up job notifications and our system will inform you when new roles open.
  • To apply, you'll need to complete the application form and submit your CV which will be reviewed by the recruiting team. Keep in mind that we recruit on a rolling basis, so submit your application early.
  • Try to keep your CV simple, concise and on a single page. Use AI to enhance your experience rather than replace it. We want to see your unique strengths shine through. Anything listed on your application may be asked about in your interview.
  • No need to include a cover letter.
  • Once you've applied, you’ll receive an email confirming we've received your application.
  • You'll be invited to take part in our online psychometric assessment.
  • The information generated from this assessment, in combination with the other information gathered during the selection process, will be used to assist us in ensuring we have a comprehensive view of the match between you and the position you have applied for.
  • There is no pass or fail for the psychometric assessment.
  • It typically takes between one to two hours to complete so be sure to give yourself enough time.
  • You will not be allowed to use AI during your psychometric assessment.
  • Your recruiter will send you further information about the psychometric assessment and a link to practice assessments. For more information, watch this psychometric assessment video.
  • Our recruiters will review your assessment results and determine if you’ll move on to the next round.
  • An applicant feedback report will be available for candidates on our careers portal two days after completing the assessment for candidates outside of the United States.
  • If we think there is a strong match between you and the programme you’ve applied for, you’ll be invited to complete a video interview.
  • In the video interview, you’ll be asked to answer a number of pre-recorded questions under timed conditions tailored to the business group you have applied for.
  • The questions we ask will give us an opportunity to learn more about you and why you are passionate about a career at Macquarie.
  • We recommend using all the tools available to you to prepare for your video interview, but please do not use AI during the video interview to answer the questions. We want to hear from you.  This is your opportunity to put your authentic self forward.
  • Our recruiters review the responses you submit through the video interview platform, and if you are successful, will invite you to take the next step in the recruitment process.
  • If you are applying for the Insight Programme, this is the final step in the recruitment process before hiring decisions are made.
  • If you’re successful after the video interview, you’ll be invited to attend further interviews with members of our business. The nature of the interview will depend on the team you are applying for.
  • Generally, you’ll be asked to consider a case study, a problem-solving activity or an article and present your views to the team.
  • You can also expect to be asked some competency-based questions. These interviews are also a great opportunity for you to gain further insight into whether a career at Macquarie is right for you.
  • Some of our business areas may invite back for a final stage senior leader interview.
  • Your interview may be hosted virtually or in person and your recruiter will provide further information on the process and how to best prepare.
  • If you have applied to our Insight Programmes, you will not be required to attend further interview. Offers for our Insight Programme are made following the video interview.
  • After your final interview your recruiter will give you an estimated timeframe of when you will be contacted regarding feedback from your interview.
  • If you are successful, you’ll be contacted by your Recruiter with an offer and you will have seven days to accept your offer.
  • You will be required to complete employment screening before you commence.
