Capital solutions that unlock value and enhance liquidity
With over ten years in the sector, we are well placed to provide working capital and infrastructure solutions across various major sports, including football, rugby, cricket and motorsport.
Flexible financing solutions to optimise cash flow alongside squad investment plans.
Selling players
- Purchase and assignment of future player transfer instalments at a fixed rate, with repayments made directly by the buying club to Macquarie. Fast, efficient pricing and standardised documentation and processes.
- Providing loans secured against player transfer receivables, enabling the selling club to unlock liquidity against variable payments, less creditworthy debtors and/or debtors from more challenging jurisdictions.
Buying players
- Purchasing transfer payables on behalf of buying clubs on extended payment terms, helping them manage liquidity as transfer obligations approach maturity.
- Purchasing transfer receivables on a non-recourse basis and agreeing a deferred payment schedule directly with the buying club, ensuring selling clubs receive full upfront payment.
Case study
We structured a €60 million facility to support the transfer of two academy players into a Premier League football club on behalf of a Portuguese club.
Our financing proposal enabled the selling club to receive funding upfront based on their preferred 3-year profile, while allowing the buying club to benefit from a reduced purchase price aligned to its preferred repayment profile.
Working capital facilities which can be collateralised by, but not limited to, media rights (UK and/or European), sponsorships and naming rights, ticketing and hospitality contracts.
- Loans secured against pledged collateral, with fixed repayment schedules and options for delayed-draw features and on-going extensions to allow for evergreen financing.
- Revolving Credit Facilities (RCFs) that give borrowers flexible access to working capital, allowing funds to be drawn, repaid and redrawn as needed, with both committed and uncommitted funding available.
Case study
We provided £70 million of term and revolving financing to support the working capital and capex needs of a major international federation in relation to two upcoming world tournaments.
The facilities were secured against payments from tournament sponsors and broadcasters and incorporated multi-jurisdictional legal and cross-currency requirements.
Mortgages and asset-backed loans for stadiums, training facilities and sports domes.
Stadiums
- Up to 100 per cent loan-to-value (LTV) mortgage facilities of $US20 million to $US300 million, with milestone-linked drawdowns, flexible structuring options and fixed repayment schedules throughout the facility term (typically 15-30 years).
Training facilities and academies
- Non-revenue-generating infrastructure can be financed via structured facilities using guaranteed/ring-fenced rental payments from the club/team backed by a combination of real estate and future revenue streams as collateral.
Sports domes
- Up to 90 per cent LTV asset-backed financing from $US1 million to $US5 million with milestone-linked drawdowns and fully amortising repayment profiles over a term of up to five years.
Case study
Macquarie Asset Management provided $US250 million in long-term financing to enable the development of the first phase of the Mosaic Quarter sports complex in Arizona.
The facility is structured as a credit tenant loan, underpinned by a long-dated agreement with Pima County.
Our reputation is founded on innovation and delivering on our promises. We adopt a discreet, collaborative approach, partnering with borrowers to understand and support their goals.”
