Macquarie Group and Macquarie Bank Chairman Kevin McCann today announced the appointment of Nicola Wakefield Evans to the Macquarie Group Limited (ASX: MQG; ADR: MQBKY) and the Macquarie Bank Limited (ASX: MBL) boards as an independent non-executive director. The appointments are effective today.
Mr McCann said Ms Wakefield Evans’ extensive Asia-Pacific experience as a corporate finance lawyer, including 20 years as a partner of King & Wood Mallesons (and its predecessor, Mallesons Stephen Jaques), would add valuable expertise to the Macquarie boards. She held several key management positions including Partner in Charge of the Sydney office, Managing Partner of the International division in Hong Kong and Managing Partner of the Practice division in Sydney.
Ms Wakefield Evans is currently a non-executive director of Lend Lease Corporation Limited, Toll Holdings Limited and BUPA Australia & New Zealand Group. She is also a member of the Advisory Board at the University of New South Wales Law School and a non-executive director of Asialink at the University of Melbourne.
Ms Wakefield Evans holds degrees in Laws and Jurisprudence from the University of New South Wales. She is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, the Law Council of Australia, the Law Society of Hong Kong, the Law Society of England & Wales, the International Bar Association and Chief Executive Women.
Ms Wakefield Evans has been appointed on the same basis as existing non-executive directors, as described in Macquarie’s Corporate Governance Statement and Policy on Board Renewal and Appointment of Directors, both of which are available on Macquarie's website.
The appointment of Ms Wakefield Evans as an independent director will result in the Macquarie Group Board comprising 11 members (Macquarie Bank membership 12), including 10 independent non-executive directors.
