GIVIT back in Brisbane

Close to 900 newborns and school students across Brisbane received care packs in January, each containing a small bundle of essential goods, ranging from baby basics to school uniforms, stationery and books.

These were prepared by 32 Macquarie staff over two days for GIVIT, a grassroots community organisation which coordinates the donation of new or quality used items to underprivileged families.  

GIVIT distributes four different care packs; a newborn baby bundle, school uniform assistance pack, back to school pack and book list assistance pack. The organisation works with almost 1,000 charities across Australia and has since 2009 given over 128,000 items to underprivileged families.

The January initiative was driven by Mark Brown from Macquarie Private Wealth.
He organised the event after learning of the valuable work GIVIT was doing in the community through a client.

“I was looking to become more engaged with charitable work and how Macquarie staff could become involved on a hands-on basis with GIVIT’s initiatives,” says Brown.

“Apart from providing support to a worthwhile cause and creating awareness around the charity itself, the added benefit was also being able to meet and collaborate with fellow Macquarie colleagues.”

Staff were also given the option to donate personally funded packs to distribute to vulnerable young parents.

The Chief Executive Officer of GIVIT, Juliette Wright, says her team was grateful for the practical support of the Macquarie volunteers.

“These packs make a big difference to the lives of children who have nothing,” she said. 

“They are our most vulnerable and the support of organisations such as Macquarie empowers us to assist thousands more.”

“The support of teams such as Mark and his colleagues enable us to keep up that great work, ensuring quality goods get to where they are needed most,” says Wright.
