Internship opportunities

Our Principal Finance team invests from Macquarie’s balance sheet into private companies, across a wide range of investment structures and sectors. The team has over 100 investment professionals globally and has invested over EUR25bn since early 2009.

Our Private Credit strategy is the largest part of the Principal Finance portfolio. The team focusses on making debt and debt-like investments of between EUR50-500m to finance buyouts, develop assets and build businesses. As a balance sheet investor we have the flexibility to invest across unique and innovative financing structures and across a wide range of sectors; some examples include technology, software, healthcare, business services, education and financial services.

The Infrastructure Advisory team is a market leading advisory team with deep expertise across multiple sectors and regions.

We have consistently been ranked number one financial adviser by deal value and number of deals and aim to maintain this position going forward. We lead the market in creating transactions and closing landmark deals. In recent years, our experienced M&A and debt team has advised over 50 clients on transactions in Europe worth over €55 billion.

Our track record is testament to our broad capabilities and the drive to deliver flexible, tailored and innovative solutions to our clients.

Sectors covered include utilities, transport, energy, renewables, telco infrastructure and essential services. With a global team, we lead the market in creating transactions and closing landmark deals.

Green Investment Group is Macquarie’s primary vehicle for principal investment in green energy projects globally, and is a specialist in green infrastructure principal investment, project development and delivery, green impact advisory and the management of portfolio assets. Its track record, expertise and capability make it a global leader in green investment and development, dedicated to accelerating the green transition.

Our Infrastructure Investment and Development group has extensive experience as both a principal investor for Macquarie and adviser for clients across a range of infrastructure projects globally.

Our team works across a variety of greenfield and development infrastructure projects, from hospitals to fibre networks across Europe and Americas.

We have ~€20 billion worth of principal in infrastructure under development, also providing equity and debt solutions to clients across all project stages and were awarded Most Innovative Investment Bank for Infrastructure and Project Finance in 2018 (The Banker).

Our team recently reached financial close on the £1.0 billion TFL’s Silvertown Tunnel, and led historic transactions including the £1.7 billion de-listing of John Laing Infrastructure fund.

On the digital infra space, the team recently closed the acquisition of c.940k BUs fibre-to-the-home network in Spain for €218.5 million. Previously, we committed £10 million of development capital to support a transition to full fibre broadband to rural communities in the UK.

Our Special Situations team, with its entrepreneurial, specialised service, is a key aspect of our strategy. It is focused on large and complex principal investments such as the acquisition of the Green Investment Bank – one of the highest profile deals of 2017 and the development of the 650 MW Markbygden windfarm in Sweden – the largest single site onshore windfarm in Europe which has led to a number of industry awards including ‘Most Innovative Investment Bank for Infrastructure and Project Finance’ and ‘Global Financial Sponsor Deal of the Year’.

With a broad mandate both in terms of geography and sectors the team looks at capitalising on special situations to generate advisory and principal gains for the Macquarie balance sheet, often working alongside other Macquarie Operating Groups and external partners.
