Sydney, 01 March 2022
Macquarie Group and Macquarie Bank Chairman, Peter Warne, today announced the appointment of Michelle Hinchliffe to the Macquarie Group Limited (ASX: MQG; ADR: MQBKY) and Macquarie Bank Limited (ASX: MBL) Boards as an independent director, effective today. She has also become a member of Macquarie's Board Audit, Board Risk and Board Nominating Committees.
Ms Hinchliffe has extensive experience in the financial services sector, leading large global teams in the provision of external audit, internal audit and advisory services to clients across the sector during a 37-year career with KPMG. Ms Hinchliffe was appointed a partner at KPMG in 1997 and served as the firm's UK Chair of Audit, having held a range of senior roles in the UK and Australia. Ms Hinchliffe previously led KPMG's financial services practice in Australia and was a member of the KPMG Australia Board. She retired from KPMG UK in February 2022. From 1 March 2022, Ms Hinchliffe has also been appointed as an independent director on the Board of BHP.
Ms Hinchliffe's appointment follows the previously announced retirement of Diane Grady on 24 February 2022. Ms Grady had been a director of MGL and MBL since May 2011.
"We are delighted to welcome Michelle back to Australia and to Macquarie," Mr Warne said. "Her deep knowledge of finance and financial services and her global experience will be of great value to the Macquarie Boards and our businesses. I would also like to reiterate my thanks to Diane Grady, who has been a valued colleague over so many years."
The appointment results in the Macquarie Group Board comprising 10 members, including five female directors (Macquarie Bank Board 11 members, including five female directors).
Macquarie's Policy on Board Renewal, Appointment of Directors and Board Performance Review, which is available on Macquarie's website, summarises the terms of Ms Hinchliffe's appointment, which are common to all of Macquarie's Non-Executive Directors.
