Soweto school benefits from Macquarie warriors

Johannesburg, 30 September 2014

Underneath the hard-working demeanour of some Macquarie Johannesburg staff lies the fierce grimace of warriors – determined to raise as much money as they can for Soweto-based children enrolled at Inkwenkwezi School.

Together with Macquarie Group Foundation matching, four teams of warriors helped raise more than ZAR11,000 to support the disadvantaged school during a Warrior Challenge held at Hartebeespoort Dam in September.

Three teams chose to participate in the ‘Commando’ 10-kilometre, 20-obstacle challenge but a fourth team were inspired by the ‘Black-Ops’ 21-kilometre, 30-obstacle challenge. Wayne Hendricks, Gerhard van Rensburg and Kieran Daly completed this challenge in under 4.5 hours, and helped organise a Friday Braai (barbeque) to raise money as well.
