Noodle sharing more than a Seoul delight

Seoul, 01 February 2014

Food is always one of the best ways to bring people together, something Macquarie Seoul staff particularly understand after making and distributing noodles to low-income families for over a year. More than 30 staff volunteers have been working with the Korean Red Cross, providing enough noodles to feed around 3,000 people.

Collectively, more than KRW1.5 million has been raised with Macquarie Group Foundation support to do so. Macquarie Seoul employees have been partnering with Red Cross Korea in various ways since 2010. Enough money was raised in that year to build a Noodle Sharing centre, and it has proved such a popular activity that volunteers have been attending the centre monthly since March 2013, helping make enough noodles to support around 200 houses each time.

The Korea Red Cross has replicated this successful model in other locations, as well as establishing a Bread Sharing centre using the same philosophy.
