Macquarie Group tops Movember global corporate fundraising

Sydney, 13 December 2012

Macquarie Group has been named by Movember as its highest global corporate fundraiser, with staff and the organisation raising in excess of $520,000 in 2012.

The grand total includes the moustache-growing and fundraising efforts of 285 Macquarie Group staff across the globe, together with the generous contribution of Macquarie’s philanthropic arm, the Macquarie Group Foundation, which matched staff efforts dollar-for-dollar.

The popular men’s health charity aimed at raising vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and depression in men attracted significant support across Macquarie. A number of Macquarie offices ranked highly in their respective Movember country leaderboards, including:

  • Macquarie Australia ($A196,839) – ranked 1st in Australia
  • Macquarie Hong Kong ($HKD789,301) – ranked 1st in Hong Kong
  • Macquarie Singapore ($S57,695) – ranked 2nd in Singapore
  • Macquarie USA ($USD84,954) – ranked 3rd in the United States
  • Macquarie SA (ZAR74,344) – ranked 5th in South Africa

John Hughes, Macquarie Executive Director and Movember Board member, said the 2012 fundraising result demonstrated Macquarie’s ongoing support of Movember. “Macquarie was the highest corporate fundraiser for Movember in Australia in 2009 and globally in 2010. It’s a huge credit to Macquarie Movember supporters and the Macquarie Group Foundation that they have ranked so consistently highly over the years.”

Lisa George, Macquarie Group Foundation Head, congratulated all participants and said Movember was a terrific example of grassroots support for philanthropic initiatives across Macquarie. “It was particularly impressive to see our global support for Movember expand to our Asian offices this year and the level of enthusiasm with which Movember continues to be embraced across the organisation is really pleasing,” Lisa said.

Adam Garone, CEO of Movember, thanked Macquarie and its staff for their continued support. “This year, we’ve seen some amazing individual efforts from Macquarie staff, as well as the momentum of the wider organisation getting behind them, right across the globe. Being our largest global fundraiser is a real achievement and certainly demonstrates the power of the Mo movement at Macquarie. Macquarie's support is integral to our continued growth and success and we'd like to express our sincere thanks for the awareness and funds the team has helped us raise.”
