Sustainability

Sustainability in Macquarie's own business operations

The environmental and social impacts of Macquarie’s own business operations, including considering the impacts on our own people, include the energy and resources we consume in our offices and data centres, the design of our office spaces, workplace culture, business travel, and our procurement activities. We seek to manage these impacts, including by monitoring and reducing our operational emissions, developing sustainable workplaces, being efficient with energy and resource use, and improving the sustainability and diversity of our supply chain.

For more information regarding our own people, please see the Our People page.

Macquarie’s 2025 Sustainability Plan articulated our corporate sustainability commitments with specific and measurable targets across environmental and social pillars, for FY2025 and FY2030. A summary of how we have performed against these targets can be found in Macquarie’s 2025 Sustainability Plan Report.

Macquarie remains focused on the following commitments beyond FY2025, and will continue to report on its progress against these commitments:

  • Source the equivalent of 100% renewable electricity across Macquarie’s global offices and data centres
  • Maintain a net zero emissions position across Scope 1 and Scope 2
  • Continue to offset Scope 3 Category 6: Business travel emissions including air, hotels, taxis, car rental and food and beverages
  • By 2030, suppliers representing 75% of our Scope 3 Category 1: Purchased goods and services and Scope 3 Category 6 Business travel (air and hotel) emissions have a science-aligned emissions reduction target
  • Ensure we pay our small suppliers in a timely manner, in line with our global regulatory obligations
  • Spend a cumulative $A150m from FY2026 – FY2030 with Diverse Owned Suppliers

To meet the requirements of the California voluntary carbon market disclosure we provide information on the voluntary carbon offsets purchased by Macquarie to offset Scope 1 emissions from office premises and Scope 3 emissions attributable to business travel.

Supply Chain

Macquarie is committed to ensuring high standards of environmental, social and governance performance throughout our supply chain. These standards are outlined in our Principles for Suppliers, which describe Macquarie’s expectations of our suppliers regarding human rights, environment, health and safety, and business ethics. They help Macquarie uphold its core values with the aim of creating supplier relationships that deliver long term, sustainable value for our clients, shareholders and communities. Further, Macquarie’s approach towards identifying and mitigating the risk of modern slavery within our business operations and direct supply chain is set out in our Human Rights at Macquarie page.

In addition, we strive to engage more diverse and sustainable suppliers by improving our internal processes and strengthening our partnerships.
