Opportunity
Identity and access management (IAM) is a key component of an organisation’s cybersecurity framework, giving security teams visibility over who can access what data, how and for what purpose.
Founded in 2004, Identity Automation is a Houston, Texas-based provider of IAM and identity-focused cybersecurity solutions for the education and healthcare end-markets – two industries defined by frequent role interdependencies and movement. In K-12 education, roles and access constantly shift, and Identity Automation’s platform dynamically adjusts access, device and security policies in real-time based on schedules, locations, and role changes.
Identity Automation’s flagship IAM software platform, RapidIdentity Cloud, is a next-generation, cloud-based solution that provides time-saving automation and a flexible approach to managing digital identities for school districts, colleges, healthcare systems and more. By putting the unique identities of both educators and students at the heart of the learning process, Identity Automation’s tools help academic institutions unlock their potential and provide a safer, more personalised learning experience
Approach
Macquarie Capital's Software and Services team acted as exclusive financial adviser to Identity Automation on its sale to Jamf for $US215 million.
Jamf – a publicly traded portfolio company of Vista Equity Partners – specialises in Apple enterprise device management, offering a cloud-based software platform to help organisations manage, secure and connect Apple devices, apps and resources, with a focus on simplifying work and protecting privacy.
Macquarie Capital's deep sector coverage across the cybersecurity and education sectors allowed the team to collaborate internally and strategically position Identity Automation as a mission-critical IAM software solution among sponsor and strategic buyers. Identity Automation was previously a portfolio company of Spotlight Equity Partners, a private equity firm investing in and helping scale growth software companies.
The acquisition comes at a time of rapid evolution across the IAM sector, with tools like RapidIdentity Cloud serving as a crucial way for companies to safeguard digital identities and manage access within their organisation’s IT infrastructure.
Outcome
The combination of Identity Automation’s cybersecurity and identity solutions with Jamf’s mobile device management system will enable a more integrated and streamlined customer experience, helping ensure secure devices and application access.
By integrating dynamic identity management, Jamf can deliver one comprehensive security solution to benefit schools and other industries that rely on mobile-centric and deskless workflows, such as healthcare, retail, aviation, and field services.
