We acted as sponsor and exclusive financial adviser on the €1 billion PPP to extend the D4/R7 Slovakia Road by 60km, including a 2km bridge over the River Danube.

Opportunity

Macquarie Capital acted as 45% sponsor and exclusive financial adviser to the Consortium, reaching financial close for the €1bn D4/R7 Slovakia Road PPP in June 2016. The project includes the design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance of sections on the D4 Highway (the Bratislava ring road) and the R7 Expressway.

Approach

Macquarie actively led commercial negotiations with the Authority and the contractors to ensure a bankable project and secured an innovative committed multi tranche funding solution that minimised financing costs. Macquarie’s significant experience with multilateral funders and their processes allowed it to obtain competitive commitment from senior debt multilaterals, a mezzanine debt multilateral and several commercial lenders.

Preferred consortium

Selected as the preferred consortium by the Slovak Ministry of Transport in February 2016

Construction to complete in 2020

Construction is due to complete Q4 2020, with a 30-year operations and maintenance contract coming into effect
