Our Commodities and Global Markets business has more than 2,100 employees in 43 offices globally who provide products and services to clients exposed to commodities and financial markets.

The business combines specialist expertise, risk and capital solutions to help our clients realise opportunities in global markets including fixed income, foreign exchange, commodities and specialised and asset finance.

For more than 40 years, we've partnered with our clients to understand their needs, provide tailored solutions and build long-term relationships. Today, as commodities continue to underpin the building of our cities, as our global energy needs continue to evolve, and with technology changing the world, we provide access to more than 200 products across more than 30 market segments. We are also active in the global energy transition, developing solutions across carbon and emissions, renewable and flexible power, clean fuels and sustainable transport.

Our Central division develops non-division specific, early stage or cross-divisional initiatives as well as housing various CGM-wide services including the COO and CFO teams, legal and other specialist activities. The division also encompasses operational risk, focusing on the reduction of operational and other non-financial risks across the business.

Quantitative Investment Strategy

The Quantitative Investment Strategy desk expands Macquarie’s Index products offering by implementing new systematic investment strategies. We also develop cutting edge multi-assets trading and risk management applications. The team excels at designing innovative solutions to solve complex business problems.

As an intern in this group, you will sit on the trading floor, learning about the complexities of managing the life cycle of a Quantitative Investment Strategy from data sourcing to Risk decomposition. This is a unique opportunity to build your technical and business knowledge in a wide rage of markets. Interns will also have the ability to put their programming and experience with Python or C++ and other data science tools to work. 

Within this group we offer internship opportunities in either the Index Calculation or the Quant Strategy team. 

Central Risk

Our Central Risk team provides our global business with pricing and risk management assistance, and an independent view on how risk is managed and represented in our trading systems.

As an Intern in our Central Risk team, you’ll work with our businesses to identify and manage risk in systems and processes, design tactical and strategic solutions to support our culture of risk-based decision making, and have the opportunity to evaluate the development of new products. You’ll also undertake thorough financial risk and P&L analysis for derivatives and structured products, and work on projects used by our trading businesses.

Business Operational Risk Management

Our Business Operational Risk Management team works within the business and supports with managing non-financial risk. The team gets involved in every aspect of the business to assist management to release its responsibility in areas such as new product approval, incident and issue investigation, and risk and control assessment.

As an Intern in our team, you’ll be involved in a wide range of deliverables and get visibility into a broad spectrum of activities within Commodities and Global Markets.

Our Commodity Markets and Finance division provides risk management, lending and financing, and physical execution and logistics services across the energy, metals and agricultural sectors globally. The division also offers commodity-based index products to institutional investors.

The following teams within the division currently offer Internship opportunities:

Commodity Trading: Oil & Gas 

The Energy Markets desk trades with producers, consumers, refiners, trade houses and institutional clients. We are focused on growing our customer franchise and delivering derivative solutions to clients.

As part of the Oil trading desk you will:

- Support the trading team in day-to-day procedures and operations (booking deals, checking data is input accurately, reconciling and running reports)
- Provide ongoing pricing and execution support to the trading team
- Liaise with participants from the commodities markets
- Build and develop analytical models to improve the desk’s trading capabilities.

As part of the Gas trading desk you will:

- Analyse news and data to provide detailed insight of the fundamentals to the team
- Work closely with the quantitative modelling team on developing and extending analytical models to improve the desk’s trading capabilities
- Keep abreast of new trends, research, and best practice in energy fundamentals
- Contribute to the generation and discussion of trade ideas with the team 

Macquarie Commodities Trading Physical Oil (Geneva) 

Our Macquarie Commodities Trading (MCT) team is based in Geneva and focuses on physical oil trading. This involves looking at supply and demand models; buying, selling and moving physical cargoes of oil; managing the associated risk; working with clients, counterparties and our risk functions to conclude trades and monitoring our risk and financial position. Given the volatility in the market and the constant operations and macro sensitivity, this is an invigorating environment and one which provides a plethora of interesting opportunities.

Quantitative Investment Strategies: Structuring 

Our Quantitative Investment Strategy business provides clients with access to algorithmic or systematic trading strategies across asset classes (Commodities, Equities, Fixed Income). Our team research, design, and sell strategies to institutional investors such as asset managers, pension funds and hedge funds globally. Our strong technology platform allows us to build sophisticated investable indices which can be customised to meet our clients’ needs.

As an Intern, you’ll use your quantitative and analytical skills to support the traders in their activities, such as risk hedging, performance assessment, and reporting. You will work closely with the Strategy Structuring team to launch new strategies and integrate them in the trading execution infrastructure.

Our Fixed Income and Currencies business provides currencies and fixed income trading and hedging services to a range of corporate and institutional clients globally.

Foreign Exchange (FX) Sales & Trading

We are a leading provider of foreign exchange transactional services and offer seamless client coverage over spot and FX derivatives in all the major currency pairs.

Securitisation (Sports and Entertainment) 

Our Sports and Entertainment Finance team provides bespoke working capital solutions to sports clubs and teams in the UK, Europe, LatAm, and other countries.

As an intern, you will be involved in all aspects of our transactions, gaining insights into deal origination, credit analysis, structuring, and management reporting. Working closely with senior members of the team, you’ll engage with a variety of business and client stakeholders. You will also learn how to analyse a sports club balance sheet, understand how media rights are paid to clubs or how player transfer payments are made and why sports clubs need financing. 

 

Our futures platform provides 24-hour execution, clearing, and financing solutions to our broad institutional and corporate client base. We are a multi asset futures broker with a global footprint and memberships on more than 50 exchanges. Our business has a strong reputation for technology, innovation, and bespoke client solutions.

Execution 

In the Execution team, you’ll learn to study market news and data releases, their impacts on the markets, and how we relay this to our clients. You will work alongside our experienced sales team, constructing trade ideas and strategies for our clients. You will learn about our execution platforms and Direct Market Access (DMA) offerings to provide the best execution services and spot opportunities. You will handle important project work as we look to expand our DMA platform.

You’ll play a key role in setting up new accounts and liaising with our onboarding and documentation teams to meet go-live deadlines. You will learn about front to back trade management, from execution to clearing, and be responsible for ensuring a smooth and seamless process, being quick to resolve any issues that arise to minimise client impact and risk.

Group Data Office

Our Commodities and Global Markets Group Data Office ensures that the business maintains data appropriately regarding completeness, quality and timeliness, as well as ensuring that the data is compliant with global regulations and internal policies.

As a Graduate in this team, you’ll ensure that data produced is complete, accurate, valid, and relevant. You’ll communicate with stakeholders and manage any issues, analyse data, design resolutions and writing requirements, and coordinate implementation of system and process changes. Utilising your analytical skills and knowledge of financial markets data, you’ll complete periodic reporting tasks and review the current control framework to develop and implement robust controls. You’ll work with a variety of teams and businesses to ensure consistent data quality and appropriate data representation.

COO 

The Chief Operating Office (COO) of our Commodity Markets and Finance (CMF) business is focused on ensuring the business operates efficiently and effectively to meet our strategic goals. The team supports the CMF marketers and traders in developing core business initiatives and also managing day-to-day operations by investigating and finding appropriate solutions for a variety of operational, technological, commercial and strategic issues facing the business within our ever-changing regulatory constraints.

In this varied role, you will work with a range of different teams within Macquarie and have the opportunity to engage with senior stakeholders to deliver a range of solutions and projects. In addition, you will help protect the business from operational risk by actively identifying gaps and seeking to mitigate them, and you will also assist with data mining to extract relevant trading data from our systems for a variety of purposes e.g. for regulatory implementation initiatives.

Commodity Client Coverage 

The Commodity Client Coverage team provides the marketing, structuring and pricing of hedging solutions for the commodities markets as well as support the prospecting of, and ongoing relationship management with, clients.

As a graduate in this team, you will support the derivatives sales desk in daily activities such as sales assistance and the structuring and pricing of hedging solutions. You will have direct contact with different markets and products within a range of commodities including agriculture, metals, energy, and currencies to name a few. You will also be exposed to various core areas of the organisation. 

We have opportunities available within the Gas Power Origination team (London) and the Client Coverage team (Paris).

FIC - FX Sales and Trading (Paris) 

Based in Paris, our FIC Sales and Trading desk offers a full range of risk management and execution solutions in FX and interest rates to clients across Europe.

We are looking for a driven, motivated professional to add to our diverse team. The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical and interpersonal skills and be able to deliver superior results under time pressure in an ever-evolving industry.

Securitisation 

The Structured Credit business provides clients with asset-backed financing, working capital and capital markets solutions. Core to our business is raising capital for our clients from investors globally. Clients range from fintech start-ups through to football clubs competing in the UEFA Champions League.

As a graduate, you will apply your strong analytical skills to analyse financial assets or companies and design financial structures that are sold as investment products. The role will involve financial modelling, analysis of rating agency methodologies, review of legal documents and understanding the objectives of clients and investors.
