Macquarie Specialised Investment Solutions (MSIS) has appointed Guido Musso as Managing Director and Davide Alessandrini as Director to establish a new business arranging Export Credit Agency (ECA) financing for new ship builds. The business will be headquartered in London.
Guido and Davide have an established track record in the industry, enjoy key client relationships and have arranged over US$20bn of transactions during the past four years.
In his global role, Guido will establish key relationships between Macquarie, ECAs and ship owners and operators with a focus on arranging secured ship financing transactions. Guido joins from Citi where he was Global Head of Shipping and Offshore, Export and Agency Finance division. Prior to Citi Guido worked at HSBC in its Project and Export Finance division.
Davide also joins from Citi in Hong Kong, where he was responsible for client and ECA relationship development in Asia and was tasked with expanding the ECA Shipping business in the region. Prior to this, Davide was with Citi in London on the ECA Shipping team, the shipping risk management team and the corporate banking arm of Societe Generale.
MSIS established its ECA business after identifying opportunities in the new build ship financing space. A number of banks no longer consider ship finance a core activity and as a result many traditional lenders have retreated from the shipping sector in recent years. MSIS will be able to provide expertise in the shipping sector as well as in export credit, a valuable combination for investors.
Peter Lucas, Global Head of MSIS, commented: “Guido and Davide bring to Macquarie a wealth of experience, insight and relationships in the ship financing space. We welcome them to the team and look forward to working together to create valuable opportunities for our clients and investors.”
