Jessica Soligo (Financial Management Group)

“I joined the Group Treasury team as part of the Macquarie Graduate Program in 2018 after graduating with a Bachelor of Mathematics and Finance from University of Wollongong. Through the Graduate Program, I was able to attend a wide range of training from business writing to financial wellbeing to help give the best start in my career.”

“Since joining Macquarie, I have worked in the Group Treasury Capital team where I focus on projecting Macquarie’s future capital position. This has allowed me to work on a variety of projects, including Macquarie’s $A1.7 billion equity raise in August 2019.

“Working at Macquarie has allowed me to participate in events such as representing the Financial Management Group in the tug-of war competition as well as being part of a Friday lunchtime basketball team.”

Denzel Florez (Risk Management Group)

“I joined the Risk Management Group’s Quantitative Applications Division in 2019 as part of the Graduate Program, after completing a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics and Statistics. I was unsure whether the technical knowledge I gained in my degree would be useful in the financial sector, and I was amazed by how applicable my studies are to the work I do.”

“In my current role, I independently review models that are used in regulatory/economic capital calculations which involves many of the mathematical, statistical and programming skills I learnt through my degree. From the beginning, I’ve had the chance to work on a number of high impact projects, including a business transaction which has reinforced to me how applicable maths is to the financial sector.

“I have been fortunate enough to have a manager who empowers me with the work I do in the office and out of the office, being able to work flexibly since I started.

“Through the Graduate Volunteer Network, I have co-organised an event to raise money for pancreatic cancer, a cause close to my heart. I’ve also volunteered my time to help feed people who are experiencing homelessness. There are also wider charity events, particularly Foundation Week, which sees the whole office get involved in a cause that they’re passionate about.

“As a Graduate, we can attend a series of workshops throughout the first 12-months of our careers through the Graduate Development Program. These workshops focus on skills that are useful for work, life and our wellbeing.”

Joseph Clear (Banking and Financial Services)

“I joined Macquarie as a Summer Intern and then re-joined the team as a Banking and Financial Services Graduate upon completing my studies. Prior to joining Macquarie, I completed a BSc in Mathematics and a Master of Applied Finance.”

“I am now an Analyst in our wealth analytics team, where I have been involved in transforming our private wealth business while also exploring the opportunities to improve our client experience through the world of data science.

“My team has given me responsibility and ownership of key projects within a few months of commencing, which has been a steep learning curve that has been extremely beneficial for my professional development.

“Through the Macquarie Group Foundation, I was part of a team that brought rescue dogs into the office, raising money for the RSPCA. I have also participated in various sporting events and volunteered for a local food van. Macquarie provides the support and time to pursue these opportunities, something I am very grateful for.”
