Macquarie Securities Expands Equities Trading with Six Hires in Sales Trading

NEW YORK - Macquarie Securities Group, the institutional equities arm of Macquarie Group (“Macquarie”) (ASX: MQG; ADR: MQBKY), today announced that it has hired six senior equities sales traders to further widen its trading operations in New York, San Francisco and London.

In New York:

  • Gregory M. Calvino will join as a Senior Sales Trader. He was most recently at Thomas Weisel Partners, where he was a Managing Director and a Senior Sales Trader within Institutional Equity Trading, focusing on the global macro hedge fund group. Prior to that position, he was a Senior Sales Trader in Institutional Equity Trading at RBC Capital Markets. Mr. Calvino has over 23 years of experience in institutional equity trading, with over 12 years of hedge fund coverage specialization.
  • Christopher Richards will join the firm as a Senior Trader. He was most recently at Thomas Weisel Partners, where he was a Managing Director and a Senior Equity Trader within Institutional Equity Trading. Mr. Richards was the head sector trader for financial and energy sector equities and previously was head trader for the industrial sector. Prior to that, he was at Banc of America Securities as a Managing Director and Senior Equity Trader. Mr. Richards has over 15 years of experience in equity trading.

Macquarie Securities Group will grow its West Coast equity trading desk with the addition of the following individuals, who will both be based in San Francisco:

  • Ross Peet will join the firm as a Senior Sales Trader. He was most recently at Needham & Co., where he was a Managing Director and Senior Sales Trader covering the firm’s top accounts in New York, the Midwest and the West Coast. Mr. Peet previously also worked on the firm’s agency desk and has over 15 years of experience in equity trading.
  • Lance Wood will join the firm as a Senior Sales Trader. He was previously with Leerink Swann as a Managing Director for West Coast equities. He opened the firm’s West Coast office in 2003. Prior to that he was a Managing Director at Bear Stearns and a Principle at Robertson Stephens. Mr. Wood has over 17 years of experience in equity trading.

Macquarie Securities Group will establish its first London US equity trading desk with the addition of the following individuals, who will both be based in London:

  • Jonathan Knapman will join the firm as a Senior Sales Trader. He was previously with Piper Jaffray Ltd. in London as Regional Manager of Sales Trading and was the senior US equity sales trader. Prior to this position he worked at ABN Amro Equities UK Ltd., as a US equities sales trader. Mr. Knapman has 10 years of equity trading experience with a focus on US stocks.
  • Matthew Penfold will join the firm as a Senior Sales Trader. He was also previously with Piper Jaffray Ltd. in London as a Vice President in US Equity Sales Trading. Prior to this position he worked at Insight Investment Management in the UK in international equity dealing. Mr. Penfold has 10 years of experience in equity trading.
