Variety is the spice of community life across Asia
Asia, 30 October 2014
With more than 45 events taking place across Macquarie’s Asian offices during Foundation Week, community spirit is alive and well in the region.
In Hong Kong alone, 13 events during the promotion kept staff busy, with a trivia night, garage sale, exercise classes and magic lessons on offer in the fundraising stakes.
Volunteering activities were also plentiful, with opportunities including packing Christmas boxes for underprivileged children, cleaning up local beaches and helping out at a rugby fun day for Macquarie partner charity Po Leung Kuk.
Reflecting its characteristically community-oriented nature, Macquarie’s Manila office was busy planting trees, raising money at trivia and karaoke events and donating blood.
In Seoul, in a twist on the popular ice bucket challenge, staff members were dumped on with a bucket of plastic balls with the added incentive of not needing a change of clothes afterwards.
The team in Gurgaon visited a local HIV/AIDS non-profit, held a fundraising plant sale and ran a food mela where staff purchased home-made favourites.
Macquarie’s Kuala Lumpur staff also contributed by featuring art and photography for sale in their office lobby, with pieces created by children from the National Autism Society of Malaysia and all proceeds going to support the charity’s work.
