Hong Kong, 20 May 2015
Staff from across Macquarie’s Hong Kong office recently competed in Peak24 - a 42km relay race - to raise funds and awareness to combat modern slavery.
The Macquarie participants’ tally of more than $60,000- including matching from the Macquarie Group Foundation- saw them crowned the top fundraisers.
Across Asia, Macquarie’s leadership team and staff are taking action against the human rights abuses associated with slavery. The Macquarie Group Foundation is currently funding research into the prevalence of slavery amongst domestic helpers in four countries across Asia. In Hong Kong alone, an estimated 13,400 people are not at liberty due to their debt bondage.
The research project will provide quantifiable data to help inform public policy on the eradication of slavery and trafficking.
