Pro bono finance support sees real community impact

New York, 24 Jul 2015

Three New York City non-profits benefited from a recent ‘Community Impact’ program staffed by 14 Macquarie finance professionals.

The eight-week program focused on pro bono projects for Macquarie community grant partners America Needs You, the Carter Burden Center for the Aging and The HOPE Program.

The community impact program helped integrate a new social enterprise into a non-profit organisation’s current financial structure as well as updating finance policies and procedures to align with growth and compliance requirements. Macquarie staff also helped to restructure budgets and reports to accommodate national expansion.

“While the non-profit partners benefit from highly skilled, targeted pro bono assistance, our staff benefit quite a bit from the experience as well,” Macquarie Group Foundation Americas Director Erin Shakespeare said.  “Participants had a chance to step outside of their day to day role and into a different and new environment.”

She said working with the non-profits provided practical, hands-on skill development in the areas of leadership, client commitment and communication.
