An opportunity to show off their desk, classroom and school to their Macquarie ‘buddies’ had some primary students from Seaford Park so excited they had trouble falling asleep the night before the visit.
Twenty Macquarie Melbourne staff met their ‘little buddies’ as part of a volunteering program with Ardoch Youth Foundation, a charity providing education support for disadvantaged children and young people. The Literacy Buddies initiative involves students and corporate volunteers exchanging letters about school life, hobbies, pets and future plans. “I like seeing that I can make a difference in my little buddy's life,” says Macquarie staff member and volunteer Aiuyen Lee.
The program also exposes the little buddies to new opportunities and inspires them to continue with their education.
