Food and memories sustain community efforts in Tokyo

Tokyo, 06 October 2014

Around 40 Tokyo staff participated in the office’s inaugural Community Day on Friday, 3 October, signing up to volunteer with community organisations Second Harvest and Tohuku Aid.

At Second Harvest, volunteers chopped vegetables in preparation for cooking and delivery to those in need. They heard about how Second Harvest sources and distributes donated food items across Tokyo, and its alliance with a national network of warehouses and facilities catering to charities working with hungry citizens.

The volunteers who worked with Tohuku Aid cleaned hundreds of photos that were found in the aftermath of the 3/11 tsunami, before organising and placing them in albums. It is hoped the images will be reunited with their rightful owners.
