Feeding kids with an early morning run
Manila, 30 March 2014
A new running event involving almost 1,000 registered participants in Manila’s central business district doesn’t happen without significant planning. The inaugural Macquarie Manila Charity Fun Run, held in March this year, was first mooted in August 2013, with Macquarie staff across the various business groups getting involved.
And the planning paid off, with Macquarie staff, clients, family and friends taking part in the five kilometre race around the Ayala Triangle, and raising more than PhP1,000,000 ($A25,000) for the Center of Excellence in Public Elementary Education. CENTEX is a local organisation providing a high-quality learning environment for children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
The funds raised will provide hot lunches for 150 of the neediest children for the entire school year, often their only substantial and therefore critical meal of the day, as well as a customised library and reading program.
The organising committee’s work in making the event happen also earned them the 2014 Macquarie Team of the Year Award.
