Meet our people | EMEA
Divison Director, Macquarie Asset Management
I am the Head of Risk for Macquarie Infrastructure Debt Investment Solutions, a newer business in Macquarie’s global infrastructure investment offering. We perform independent credit analysis of potential investments for our clients.
The people I work with are motivated. We all enjoy the opportunity to shape a new business which I believe is on the cusp of great things. We are focused on seeing our business perform to the highest standard for our clients.
There is a wealth of knowledge at Macquarie and people are prepared and willing to help. Being able to tap into the broader Macquarie network has been critical for the team.
My career at Macquarie is a good example of the opportunities available within Macquarie. I have worked in New York, Sydney and now London. I have experience in the Macquarie Capital business, our Risk Management Group and now the Asset Management Group.
Associate Director, Corporate and Asset Finance Group
I joined Macquarie because of its record of innovation. I read about an Australian bank that was leading the global infrastructure finance market and I wanted to be part of that culture and operation. I saw working at Macquarie as an opportunity to learn from specialists more so than in any other institution.
On joining Macquarie, I worked on listed infrastructure funds that had underlying private equity investments with Macquarie Capital. I then moved to London to more directly support Macquarie’s asset finance businesses. From there I transitioned to a business development role in the Corporate and Asset Finance Group.
At Macquarie, I value the opportunity you have to pursue your own ideas. There is a culture that is open to people voicing opinions and concerns.
I am excited to see where my future will take me. I am confident there will be new and challenging opportunities and look forward to progressing my career within Macquarie.
Senior Vice President, Macquarie Capital
I am a member of the Financial Institutions Group advisory team. Within the financial institutions sector, I provide advice to clients in relation to mergers, acquisitions and divestments, IPOs and capital raisings and assess merchant banking opportunities for Macquarie.
I was attracted by Macquarie’s entrepreneurial spirit, flat organisational structure and my prospects for career progression. I also appreciated the firm’s international network, particularly its strength in Asia.
The most rewarding aspect of my job is working alongside a team of driven and talented individuals to deliver advice that adds value for our clients. There is also a great sense of satisfaction, both individually and as a team, when a transaction is successful.
I am a firm believer in giving back to the community. Through the Macquarie Group Foundation, I have had the opportunity to participate in mentoring charities, such as ReachOut, and provide pro bono support through the Foundation’s Community Resourcing initiative. I also climbed Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for charity, with additional support from the Foundation through its excellent donation matching scheme.
System Integrator, Corporate Operations Group
I am responsible for implementing and integrating new services and systems into Macquarie’s businesses. This requires technical knowledge as well as a deep understanding of Macquarie’s businesses.
With Macquarie being so diverse, we offer a huge range of products and services. This also means we have a large number of complex systems. While this can be challenging, at Macquarie it’s easy to pick up the phone to talk to an expert or schedule a meeting with a team.
I have found there is a flat organisational structure, so it’s common to be in a meeting with different levels of colleagues, from graduates to senior executives. Everyone is happy to answer questions.
At Macquarie I have changed roles and teams numerous times. Having the desire to learn has helped me get involved in a number of new initiatives and will stand me in good stead for a successful career here at Macquarie.
Division Director, Risk Management Group
I was attracted to Macquarie because of its commodities expertise. I was further enthused through the interview process, where I met some very smart people. I knew this was a place where I could learn a lot from my colleagues, while also contributing to Macquarie’s expanding commodities presence.
I currently head the energy credit team for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Our role is to ensure the balance sheet is deployed in a reasonable manner. We need to be nimble to take advantage of short-term opportunities while ensuring we have identified (and where possible mitigated) any risks. I see our role as key to Macquarie’s success. We support the transactional flow but at the same time safeguard our balance sheet.
While my colleagues’ backgrounds are highly varied, their common traits are that they’re smart, innovative and committed. They’re quick to pick up new skills, enthusiastic to learn and challenge themselves and also happy to have a laugh and enjoy each other’s company when the working day is done.
Hard work and ability are important but you also need to take responsibility for your career by putting your hand up, asking for new challenges, expressing your thoughts and plans. If people don’t know what you want to do with your career, they might not consider you for a new opportunity.
Senior Manager, Macquarie Asset Management
I am the Regional Head of Risk for EMEA for our Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets (MIRA) Division. I came through the graduate programme and completed my internships at Macquarie through the University of Technology Sydney’s Bachelor of Accounting course.
When I graduated from my degree in Sydney, I envisaged that I’d be in a finance/accounting role. I really enjoyed starting my career in finance, however when I had the opportunity to move across to risk, it opened up a whole world of opportunity for me.
In 2012, I took advantage of an opportunity for a secondment to join the MIRA Finance team in London. In this role, I worked in a team responsible for the financial accounting aspects of the 4 European infrastructure funds.
My role evolved from focusing on finance to other aspects of the business with an increasing focus on risk and controls. This allowed me to move from finance to risk, and to my current role.
I have taken advantage of various opportunities – rotations across different businesses, secondments overseas and complete change in role. These opportunities have been invaluable in shaping my career.
