Macquarie Funds Management*

The Macquarie Funds Management Alternative Investments team consists of 16 private equity investment professionals: eight located in Sydney, Australia, four located near San Diego in the United States, three investment professionals located in Hong Kong and one investment professional located in London. Together the team has over 120 years combined experience in the finance and investment industry, and focuses exclusively on private equity. The investment team is supported by Macquarie Funds Management’s fund administration group of over 80 professionals providing assistance with legal, risk and tax issues, as well as fund reporting.

Biographies: Australian-based investment team

John Brakey, B AgrEc (Hons), CFA, ASIA
Division Director, Head of Alternative Investments

John is responsible for Macquarie Funds Management’s Alternative Investments operations. Before joining Macquarie Funds Management’s Alternative Investment team, John was an Asset Consultant with Towers Perrin. As part of his responsibility for advising on alternative asset classes, assessing private equity managers and developing Towers Perrin’s alternative investment capabilities, John assisted in the due diligence of the private equity managers in the Australian Federal Government’s second IIF program. He was also one of three members of Towers Perrin’s Alternative Investment Committee. John began his career at Macquarie Funds Management in 1990 in the Cash and Fixed Interest business.

John received a B.A. in Agricultural Economics with Honours from University of Sydney. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and an Associate of the Securities Institute of Australia (ASIA).

Robert Credaro, BEC (Hons), CFA
Division Director

Robert has worked in the finance and investment industry for 19 years, and is involved in the due diligence and analysis of investments decisions for Australian and international funds. Prior to joining Macquarie Funds Management, Robert worked in Macquarie Bank's Equity Markets Group, where he was involved in the analysis of stock market sectors and the overall equity market. On joining Macquarie Bank in 1990, he initially worked in the Debt Markets Division as a Fixed Interest Analyst. Previously, Robert spent four years in the Australian Department of Treasury in Canberra where he worked on the Commonwealth budget and on Overseas Debt Management.

Robert received a B.A. in Economics with Honours from University of Sydney. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).

Michael Lukin, BSc (Hons), CFA, AIAA
Division Director

Michael is involved in the due diligence and analysis of investments decisions within the Alternative Investments team at Macquarie Funds Management. Before joining Macquarie Funds Management, Michael spent over three years as an asset consultant with Towers Perrin, providing advice on investment matters and manager selection to superannuation funds and master trust clients. This included working with the Alternative Investments Group of Total Risk Management, a subsidiary of Towers Perrin, on alternative asset manager selection and policy. Michael was involved in the review of international private equity fund of funds and conducted due diligence of private equity managers for the Australian Federal Government’s second IIF program.

Michael has a degree in Applied Mathematics with Honours from the University of Sydney, majoring in financial mathematics. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and is an Associate of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia.

Shaw Ng, BCom (Hons), CFA
Senior Manager

Shaw is involved in the due diligence and analysis of investment decisions within the Alternative Investments team at Macquarie Funds Management, focusing on Australian investments. Shaw was previously part of Macquarie Funds Management’s International Division prior to joining the team, where he was responsible for sourcing and analysing acquisitions for the Funds Management Group. Prior to joining Macquarie, Shaw spent two years with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia’s Business Investments team where he was responsible for reviewing structured finance and strategic acquisition transactions. He started his career in Towers Perrin providing asset allocation, manager selection and manager configuration advice to institutional clients.

Shaw received a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Sydney with Honours and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.

Biographies: US-based investment team

Eric Becker, MBA, BA, CFA, CPA
Associate Director

Eric is an Associate Director based in the United States. He is focused on the firm’s investment activities in primary funds, secondary funds and co-investments in the United States. Prior to joining Macquarie in 2005, Eric was a Director at Pacific Corporate Group LLC, where he managed client relationships for some of the world’s largest public pension funds. This involved portfolio construction as well as primary fund, secondary fund and co-investment selection. Prior to PCG, Eric was an Analyst at Pacific Life Insurance Company where he analysed various private market investments. Eric began his career at Deloitte & Touche, LLP, where he performed financial statement audits and valuations.

Eric received his MBA from the Marshall School of Business at USC and his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), as well as a member of the Association for Investment Management and Research and the Financial Analyst’s Society.

Rick Fratus, MBA, BSc
Associate Director

Rick is an Associate Director based in the United States. He is focused on the firm’s investment activities in primary funds, secondary funds and co-investments in the United States. Prior to joining Macquarie Funds Management in 2005, Rick was a Senior Associate at Pacific Corporate Group, working with large public pension plans in constructing their private equity portfolios and selecting private equity managers. His areas of focus include energy, clean technology, venture capital, secondaries and special situations. Prior to PCG, he worked as an Analyst for ARCH Venture Partners and the Austin Technology Incubator where he evaluated start-up opportunities and provided management consulting support to portfolio companies Rick also served on active duty for nine years as a Special Operations Officer in the U.S. Navy.

Rick received his MBA from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas, Austin, and his Bachelor of Science degree from the U.S. Naval Academy.

Kurt Faulhaber, MBA and BS (Mechanical Engineering)
Senior Manager

Kurt Faulhaber is a Senior Manager based in Macquarie Fund Management’s (MFM) US Carlsbad office. Kurt was recruited by MFM due to his deep Clean Tech domain experience, and focuses on MFM’s Clean Tech investment activities. Prior to joining MFM, Kurt was Associate Director at the Clean Energy Incubator (CEI), the first of its kind in the US, initiated in 2001 by the US Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory. At CEI, Kurt focused on identifying viable Clean Tech ventures and technologies, assisting companies attain venture capital funding and supporting these companies in their launch and growth. In addition, Kurt has had numerous consulting engagements, including an appointment by the Los Alamos National Laboratory to perform financial valuations of Clean Technology equity deals, Kurt began his career in the semiconductor industry with Teradyne, Inc where he lead multi-million dollar product developments of Automatic Test Equipment.

Kurt received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Minor in Ethics at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA and his MBA from The University of Texas at Austin, McCombs School of Business.

Aaron Jamieson, BEng (Mechatronic)(Hons), MCom
Senior Manager

Aaron Jamieson is based in MFM’s US office and is primarily responsible for MFM’s investor relations, marketing and distribution in North America. Aaron has been working for the Macquarie Group for over five years.  Prior to joining MFM Alternative Investments, Aaron managed a team with US$2 billion in assets under management that were dedicated to providing  structured investment solutions to high net worth clients.

Aaron received his Bachelor of Mechatronic Engineering degree with honors and a Masters of Commerce (finance major) from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia.

Biographies: Hong Kong-based investment team

Hugh Dyus, MBA, B Econ Science
Associate Director

Hugh Dyus is based in MFM’s Hong Kong office and is focused on MFM’s private equity investment activities in the Asia Pacific region. Hugh has over 15 years of international investment banking and M&A experience and over five years of private equity experience in the Asia Pacific region. Hugh gained his private equity experience primarily through his position as a Director of PPM Ventures (Asia) Ltd, focusing on deal origination and execution activities and on portfolio management of the Asian direct investments portfolio. He also worked briefly for Deutsche Asset Management (Hong Kong) Limited as a Director, Private Equity. Before his affiliation with PPM Ventures (Asia) Ltd, Hugh was a Director of CCF Charterhouse (Asia) Ltd, where he was responsible for the establishment and development of their Asian corporate finance advisory business, which was focused on M&A. Prior to moving to Asia in 1991, Hugh worked in London for CCF and Chase Investment Bank focusing on the origination and execution of UK and cross border European M&A transactions.

Hugh holds a MBA. and a B. Econ Science from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa.

Motoya Kitamura, BA, MA (International Economics and International Relations)
Senior Manager

Motoya is based in MFM’s Hong Kong office and is focused on MFM’s private equity investment activities in the Asia Pacific region.  Prior to joining Macquarie, Motoya was based in Tokyo as a fund investment professional at Alternative Investment Capital (2005-2007), where he was involved in the due diligence and monitoring of private equity funds in Asia, the US, and Europe.  Motoya participated in the private equity market initially as a research consultant for Mitsubishi Research Institute (1997-2004), where he was based in Tokyo providing commercial due diligence for Japanese private equity funds and publishing research reports on the global buyout market for his clients.  Motoya is also widely recognized in the Japanese media as a commentator on the Japanese buyout market and has published several books and numerous reports and articles on the private equity industry in Japan.  Prior to joining Mitsubishi Research Institute, Motoya was a staff writer for Japanese business magazines and news services.

Motoya has a Bachelor of Arts in English from the Osaka University of Foreign Studies and a Master of Arts in International Economics and International Relations from The Johns Hopkins University.  Motoya is native in Japanese.

Biographies: UK-based investment team

Peter Weidmann, MBA (Hons), M.S.
Senior Manager

Peter is involved in the due diligence and analysis of investment decisions within the Alternative Investments team at Macquarie Funds Management. He is primarily responsible for the group's investment activities in Europe. Before joining Macquarie Funds Management, Peter spent five years with a large German Family Investment Office, where he was heading the private equity program. His responsibilities included portfolio construction and manager selection on a global basis. Prior to this Peter worked for Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt and San Francisco in Technology and Venture Capital. Peter started his career in Consulting with Bearingpoint in Frankfurt.

Peter received his MBA with Honours from University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business. He holds a Master of Science in Finance and Computer Science from the University of Mannheim, Germany. Peter is native in German and fluent in English.
