I was initially attracted to Macquarie because of its focus on infrastructure. I was looking for an opportunity to combine my seemingly contradictory career interests of private equity and international development; Macquarie’s model of investing in infrastructure assets around the world was the perfect way to do that. Moreover, I was attracted to Macquarie’s truly unique culture. Macquarie is a global firm filled with young, dynamic people from diverse backgrounds that are fun and open-minded. That diversity creates an entrepreneurial culture, free of hierarchy, in which everyone is encouraged to take on as much responsibility as they are able to handle.

Since joining Macquarie, the highlight of my experience thus far was the Puget Energy transaction. This transaction was challenging for a number of reasons, not the least of which was that it occurred in the midst of the credit crisis. It is a landmark transaction for Macquarie in the U.S. and it allowed me to bring my prior experience to bear.

My greatest challenge at Macquarie is what attracted me to it in the first place, the flat structure and entrepreneurial spirit. I will frequently find myself working on projects or in situations with which I have no prior experience. It can be intimidating but it is also very exciting to be constantly challenged. Fortunately, Macquarie’s greatest resource is its people who have a great breadth and depth of knowledge and are always willing to help!
