Macquarie in the Community
One of the beliefs around which Macquarie formed its philosophy in the early 1970s was that a company is a member of society and therefore one of its duties is to work in different ways for the betterment of that society. This founding philosophy was formalised in 1984, with the establishment of the Macquarie Group Foundation.
Each year the Macquarie Group Foundation funds programs that benefit the entire community in the areas of education, arts, health research, health care, welfare and the environment. More recently, the Foundation introduced Macquarie Giving, an initiative that enables our staff to donate to charities on a committed regular basis and bring benefits to our wider community through regular deductions from their salaries.
Today, funding to not-for-profit organisations has reached record levels, with increased community engagement by Macquarie staff, greater international activity and several ground breaking initiatives. Each year, we recognise outstanding staff contributions to the community through our 'Volunteer of the Year' Awards, with the winners receiving money to donate to the organisations they support.
Overall, the Foundation's activities reflect the drive, commitment and entrepreneurial spirit that characterises Macquarie.
