Our businesses

Macquarie has more than 1400 people in 12 offices across Europe. Our European head office is in London, with other offices in Dublin, Frankfurt, Geneva, Manchester, Milan, Munich, Paris, Rome, Vienna and Zurich. We continue to grow in Europe, expanding existing businesses, forging joint ventures with local partners and making niche acquisitions. Currently graduate opportunities exist within:

Macquarie Capital

Macquarie Capital operates globally and brings together Macquarie’s advisory, wholesale structuring, broking, underwriting and investment banking funds management capabilities.

Through its investment advisory funds, Macquarie is a global leader in the creation and management of infrastructure and specialised funds. Macquarie manages more than €36bn of equity invested in around 100 businesses including toll roads, airports, renewable energy and utilities.

Macquarie provides corporate advisory services and debt and equity underwriting to corporate and government clients including project finance, public private partnerships, corporate restructuring, and mergers and acquisitions. The project finance team is at the forefront of the infrastructure sector and the social and public infrastructure team is the largest private sector dedicated financial structuring team in Europe.

The financial products team provides global financial solutions and innovative investment products to UK and European clients. It also facilitates the arrangement of international leasing transactions. Macquarie is also a significant provider of asset-based lease finance solutions for the corporate and government sectors – including semiconductor, manufacturing, commercial aircraft engine assets as well as technology and infrastructure.

Macquarie’s unique franchise in the Asia Pacific region supports our position as a leading broker of Australian and Asian equities to all the major investing institutions across the European time-zone.

The Macquarie Research team provides analysis and market intelligence across key strategic industry sectors such as resources, consumer staples, transportation, telecommunications and infrastructure. Our commodity research team is internationally regarded as a sector leader.

Treasury and Commodities Group

The European Treasury and Commodities team forms part of a global network providing trading, financing and price risk management services in a range of commodities markets. Our main divisions in Europe are:

Metals and Energy Capital - Provides debt and equity finance for the metals and upstream oil and gas industries, investing at the corporate and project level; the division runs a 24-hour trading desk, price-making to the professional market for base and precious metals; and offers clients tailored hedging and price risk management services.

Agricultural Commodities and Investor Products – Offers risk management solutions, pre-export finance and trade financing programmes to the agricultural commodity sector and actively trades key agricultural commodities and freight. The division is a leading provider of commodity-linked notes and structured derivatives.

Energy Markets - is a global sales and trading leader in natural gas, crude oil, oil products, emissions and coal. The division provides innovative and tailored solutions for energy market participants globally by delivering energy price risk management ideas, analysis and execution to clients across the spectrum of energy production, conversion and consumption.

Futures - Futures and options trading services on all global exchanges, servicing products across all major derivatives exchanges worldwide.

Debt Markets- Originating, placing and trading debt, providing interest rate risk management and structuring services.

Equity Markets Group

Equity Markets Group undertakes Macquarie's principal trading, risk arbitrage and market-making activities in derivatives. It utilises its risk management skills to originate equity-based financial solutions and products for retail and wholesale clients and operates Macquarie's equity finance operations. Tailored risk and product solutions are delivered to clients across Europe from our offices in London and Munich.

Our equity trading desk focuses on client facilitation trading for global institutions and hedge funds, as well as principal arbitrage activities for the Asian market.

Real Estate Investment and Finance

Macquarie's Real Estate Group provides a range of innovative real estate-related services from our offices in Australia, North America, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. A world leader in real estate financing and capital markets, our real estate team of more than 800 people manage around €11 billion of real estate assets around the globe.

Our Real Estate Structured Finance team helps UK developers and investors by providing finance and risk management products across all major real estate markets. Our innovative funding structures combine key UK lending techniques with features of finance programmes developed in Australia and the US.

Through our Real Estate Capital division, Macquarie also has a strong track record creating and managing real estate investment trusts (REITs). The team currently manage seven REITs in three countries, and introduction of REIT legislation throughout Europe is expected to create significant opportunities for this business. .

Macquarie's support areas

We also have a network of support areas providing a framework which enable these businesses to operate.

Finance

Supports management and the operating areas by providing financial control, financial planning and capital management, management reporting and budgeting, divisional accounting services and business support.

Risk Management

Our philosophy of ‘freedom within boundaries’ makes strong risk management fundamental to our success. This division is an independent, centralised unit responsible for ensuring market, credit, operational and compliance risks are appropriately assessed and managed across Macquarie’s international operations.

Information Services

The Information Services Division is responsible for managing Macquarie’s global technology infrastructure, the support and development of existing business systems, and the delivery and deployment of new systems, technologies and services. Each major Business Group in Macquarie has a dedicated team that works closely with them to understand its particular technology needs and to provide innovative and effective IT solutions.

As Macquarie continues to expand, there is increased IT activity globally. Continued investment in technology is central to our strategy and is integral to Macquarie's success. In addition, technology is key to product and service differentiation in the financial services market.
