Bernd Gottschalk appointed Chairman of Macquarie Group in Germany

The Macquarie Group has today announced the appointment of Bernd Gottschalk as Chairman of Macquarie Capital in Germany. Bernd Gottschalk (64) is the former longtime Chairman of the Association of the German Automotive Industry (VDA). In his new position, Mr Gottschalk will support the development of Macquarie’s principal investment and other activities in Germany.

Bernd Gottschalk has had a distinguished career spanning several decades in the German automotive industry. Before heading the VDA from 1997 to 2007, he held a range of senior positions at Daimler-Benz AG (today Daimler AG). Among others, he was a Board Member of the commercial vehicles section from 1992 to 1996, President of Mercedes do Brazil from 1991 to 1992 and Chief Financial Officer of the omnibus plant in Mannheim from 1988 to 1991. Gottschalk currently holds a number of supervisory board mandates including Hymer (as chairman), Thyssen Krupp Technologies, Fuchs Petrolub, Hoffmann-La Roche and Voith Group.

Macquarie has had a presence in Germany since 1989 and has offices in Frankfurt and Munich.
