Charities again benefit from Macquarie's Generator Bonds |
|
|
26 July 2005 Local charitable organisations the Salvation Army and World Vision New Zealand have each received a donation of more than $72,000, following the 2005 annual profit announcement recently made by Generator Bonds Limited (Generator), a subsidiary company of Macquarie New Zealand Limited. In 2004, following Generator's first full year of operation, the two charities received more than $51,000 each. Generator is the trustee for the Generator NZ No.1 Trust which completed its $128 million issue of Generator Bonds1 (NZX code: GTR010) in August 2003. In accordance with the Trust's Master Trust Deed, all profits are donated equally to the two charities for the five year term of Generator Bonds. The head of Macquarie Financial Services Group in New Zealand, John Rowley, said providing support, both financial and in-kind, to organisations working for the betterment of the community was an important function for many businesses. “We are delighted to be able to support these organisations with their work in helping those in need,” said Mr Rowley. Mr Rowley said Macquarie operated a charitable arm, the Macquarie Foundation, which each year receives a percentage of Macquarie Bank's net profit, and awards grants to over 250 community organisations around the world. Grants are generally made to support community work initiated by or involving Macquarie staff. In New Zealand, Macquarie Foundation grants include Wellington's Karori Wildlife Sanctuary, Coast Guard Northern Region and Auckland's St-Matthew-in-the-City church. 1 Generator Bonds are issued by Generator Bonds Limited as trustee for Generator NZ No.1 Trust.
