In June 2009, Macquarie acting as financial advisor and sponsor to the GASTA Roads consortium successfully pre-qualified to bid for the PPP development of the N17/N18, a 58km motorway from Gort to Tuam. Our partners include Globalvia Infrastructuras (sponsor), FCC Construccón (design and build), P.Elliott & Company (design and build) and Wills Bros Ltd (design and build).
The N17/N18 PPP is part of the Irish Governments “Transport 21” infrastructure investment program, the largest investment ever made in Irelands transport system. It is the first scheme in the second PPP roads program in Ireland and a specific objective of the National Development Plan (NDP) 2007 to 2013.
The road forms part of the Atlantic road corridor. It will be an integral part of the national primary route network providing a high quality north south linkage in the western region. The scheme will run from Gort in the south to Tuam in the north with a major junction with the N6 Galway Dublin route to east of Galway City, easing the frequent congestion and delays the current network suffers.
The project is anticipated to include the following principal features:
- Three grade separated junctions
- Two railway bridges
- Five river bridges
- Thirty-one road bridges
- Twelve minor structures including accommodation underpasses and culverts
