Macquarie staff in the community

Matt Nacard

Matt Nacard is the Head of Australian / NZ Research with Macquarie Securities in the Sydney office.

I got involved with my chosen charities because…

I spent five years in Asia with Macquarie and travelled a lot through some very poor countries, mainly as a part of my role as a Property Analyst. It highlighted just how disadvantaged millions of people are around the world. What impacted me most were the children who have no control over their situation and have few opportunities.

My community needs...

More people who recognise how much they've got, how fortunate they are and look to help others.

I can help my community by…

At work by giving people with potential the confidence and opportunities to do well; at home by putting my family's needs first; in general by trying to make a difference.

I'd like to volunteer for…

Another board of a not-for-profit organisation where I have something to offer.

The people who inspire me are…

My parents, my wife Karen and my daughter Saskia.

I'm most proud of…

Progressing to this point in my career by always trying to do the right thing (as opposed to not making mistakes... I've made plenty of those!).

If everyone could just do one thing to make a difference what would it be?

Work out what you're passionate about, the skills you have to offer and try your best at whatever you put your mind to.

Eugene Choi

Eugene Choi works in tax with the Corporate Services Group in Macquarie's Sydney office.

I got involved with Reledev Australia because...

I was attracted by an organisation using Aussie know-how to help women in third world countries help themselves and bring long term income for their families.

My community needs…

Ongoing support and encouragement. Reledev runs AusAid projects helping women learn skills and set up businesses in third world countries in all continents - the number of families who benefit grows by the level of support received.

I can help my community by…

Helping the Reledev Board make best use of our scarce resources to have maximum impact overseas.

If I could fix one problem it would be...

Helping charities link up with people who have the desire to get involved and the technical skills to assist their effectiveness and expansion - there is never a shortage of either.

The people who inspire me are...

The countless people who dedicate their time and energy to helping others without thinking of themselves or expecting any reward or accolade.

If everyone could just do one thing to make a difference what would it be?

Smile.
