Introduction to natural gas

Wellhead to burnertip

Wellhead - the wellhead is the physical point where natural gas leaves the ground and enters a pipeline or gathering line

Processing Plants - various impurities are removed and liquid by-products such as butane and propane are extracted

Compressor Stations - the facility that provides energy to move natural gas within a pipeline by increasing the pressure of the gas at the dispatch side of the facility

Interstate Pipelines - natural gas is transported through interstate pipelines for ultimate public consumption

Citygate - the "city gate" is the physical location, usually on the outskirts of a city or town, where the local utility receives and processes natural gas for public use

Burnertip - the "burner tip" is considered the end of the gas delivery system. For a local utility, the burner tip is typically the physical location of delivery – in a business or home – where gas is ignited
