Macquarie Real Estate Asia

Macquarie Real Estate is a diverse business offering a range of services including funds management (through subsidiaries), development finance, advisory, research, global private equity raising, asset disposal strategies and property securitisation, globally. 

Circa US$29 billion of real estate assets are managed globally by Macquarie Real Estate and its associates, across a portfolio of listed and unlisted property trusts, unlisted development funds and property investment syndicates. Macquarie's real estate investment management expertise has been recognised internationally, voted No. 1 in Investment Management in Asia, Australia, China, Hong Kong, Singapore and the US in the 2007 Euromoney Liquid Real Estate Awards.

The business and its associates has more than 500 staff worldwide in 22 locations providing in Asia a wide range of investment products.  Its skill set encompasses listed and private equity fund management, equity and debt capital raising, mezzanine financing and real estate investment banking.  It is helping to facilitate the institutionalisation of Asian real estate.

Major activities include:

  • MCO CR-REIT, listed on the Korea Stock Exchange, is Macquarie's first real estate investment trust in Korea and Korea's first by a wholly owned foreign manager.  It has significantly outperformed original prospectus projections.  Distributions currently represent a yield of over 14.5% based on cost (circa 9.2%(1) based on current share price).
  • Macquarie NPS REIT is a Korean wholesale Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) investing in stablised office and retail properties in Korea. The REIT is under a co-investment agreement with Korean National Pension Service (NPS) to grow assets under management up to US$1.07 billion.
  • The Macquarie MEAG Prime REIT is listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange.  Macquarie owns 50% of the REIT Manager and Property Manager.  Current portfolio of two landmark properties on Orchard Road, Singapore and seven well located prime retail assets in Tokyo, Japan and one retail centre in Cheng Du, China.
  • MWREF - one of the first core retail property wholesale funds investing in the People’s Republic of China, comprising nine shopping mall assets in nine cities across China.
  • Through its associate, First China Property Group and also directly, Macquarie Real Estate has been active for over 10 years in residential property development in China.
  • Macquarie Goodman Asia (MGA) is a joint venture between Goodman International and Macquarie, specialising in sourcing, acquiring and managing industrial and business space real estate across strategic Asia markets.  Headquartered in Hong Kong with over 50 property executives and support staff and 125 building services staff, Macquarie Goodman Asia provides a full suite of services including fund and asset management, acquisitions and development management services.
