Selection process

At Macquarie, we believe our most valuable assets leave the building at the end of the day. This belief means we recruit and retain people who will thrive in the Macquarie culture and support our goals and values. To assist in finding you, we use a combination of interviews and psychometric assessment.

Our recruitment is not based solely on academic achievements. We are seeking to appoint candidates who satisfy a broad range of criteria in terms of their ability to make a positive and on-going contribution to the organisation.

Although the precise timeline, number of steps and evaluation process does vary somewhat across our organisation and divisions, the standard process for most positions is as follows:

Application: Select 'Search current vacancies', located in the right-hand navigation menu to read about career opportunities and access our online application form. You will need to attach your resume and any other supporting documents requested in the job description.

Interviews: The interview process is an opportunity for you to get to know our organisation, clarify the opportunities available to you and explore your technical knowledge. Interviews will take place with a representative from HR, our businesses or a combination of both. The number and type of interviews across the Groups does vary.

Assessment: Psychometric assessment is a normal part of the selection process at Macquarie, providing additional objective, reliable and relevant information about the likelihood of job success and satisfaction.

Psychometric assessment at Macquarie is available in a variety of languages, and you should use the documents below to decide which of these you would be most comfortable with, as this will give you the best opportunity to perform well.  Generally, this will be your native language and should not be affected by the location of the position you are applying for. You should only complete the assessment in English if that is your strongest language from the list available below. Please inform the recruitment contact of your preferred language when booking your assessment session.

Tips:

  • Ensure you are sitting the assessment in your native/preferred language
  • Bring reading glasses if required. All other materials will be provided
  • Get a good night’s sleep, wear comfortable clothing, and eat something prior to the assessment
  • Reschedule the assessment if you are unwell or facing circumstances which may adversely impact your performance as applicants have just one opportunity to complete the assessment
  • Ensure you bring a valid form photo identification with you to the assessment (assessment can not be conducted without it)
  • Notify Macquarie Assessment & Development if you have any disability or impairment that may prevent you from obtaining the best possible outcome on the assessment so we can consider making appropriate and reasonable accommodations.
  • Professional applicants only: have a look at the practice leaflet below to give you an idea of what to expect. Practice leaflets are available in all 13 languages:

Pre Employment Screening: This process includes reference and background checking.

The information generated from the interview process and psychometric assessment, in combination with all of the other information gathered during the selection process, will be used to obtain a comprehensive view of the match between you and the position you have applied for.

Orientation: You can see from the above process that we expend considerable time and effort to recruit exactly the right person for our team. Therefore, it is important to us that you are thoroughly steeped in the qualities for which we stand.  The first thing we do once you start work with Macquarie is provide you with a comprehensive orientation to help you better understand our culture and values.

The manner in which you receive your orientation will depend on where you are located. In some places, you may receive group training with other new recruits. In others, you may be guided through our special online orientation program.

Alongside this general, business-wide orientation, you will also receive on-the-job training specific to your position. We believe that a combination of orientation, on-the-job training and further education is important to your professional development.
